NY, [New York]: Sears & Cole, 45 William Street, 1870. Broadsheet. 26 x 20 1/2 cm. Top third of the recto is an engraved view of the Hotel and the Delaware Water Gap. Text includes promotional material on the recently constructed hotel, which was built in 1872. Delaware Water Gap was the second largest inland resort in the United States after the Civil War. Train directions and testimonials; a list of pleasant walks and drives in the vicinity on the verso. Crisp and clean but has been folded.

Paris: Chez Laurent Prault, 1768. 16mo in eights. 2 volumes: (4), xii, 379; (4), 440 pp. La Bruyere (1645-1696), a French philosopher, is best known for his Caracteres, "sketches, combining literary and ethical criticism, of individuals baptized with names taken from the plays and romances of the times." Contemporary mottled calf (rubbed), spines richly gilt with ornaments and rules, leather spine labels, marbled endpapers and mottled edges. Corners bumped, but a very good copy.

First edition. 8vo. 39 pp. The succinct ruling: "The present state of war, involving Louisiana, has swept out of existence her judicial and political system as it had existed before;" therefore, the Provisional Court is legal, Inscribed at the head of the front wrapper "Oliver H. Jones / with the kind regards of / Ch. A. Peabody." Peabody (1814-1901), a Harvard Law graduate and prominent New York attorney, served as judge for the Louisiana Provisional Court, 1863-1865. Relatively uncommon, OCLC locates 12 copies. Original printed gray wrappers (rubbed, browned, spine repaired with archival paper). Several old small circle stains to title leaf, but a good solid copy.
