NY, [New York]: Sears & Cole, 45 William Street, 1870. Broadsheet. 26 x 20 1/2 cm. Top third of the recto is an engraved view of the Hotel and the Delaware Water Gap. Text includes promotional material on the recently constructed hotel, which was built in 1872. Delaware Water Gap was the second largest inland resort in the United States after the Civil War. Train directions and testimonials; a list of pleasant walks and drives in the vicinity on the verso. Crisp and clean but has been folded.

Paris: Chez Laurent Prault, 1768. 16mo in eights. 2 volumes: (4), xii, 379; (4), 440 pp. La Bruyere (1645-1696), a French philosopher, is best known for his Caracteres, "sketches, combining literary and ethical criticism, of individuals baptized with names taken from the plays and romances of the times." Contemporary mottled calf (rubbed), spines richly gilt with ornaments and rules, leather spine labels, marbled endpapers and mottled edges. Corners bumped, but a very good copy.

London: William Heinemann, 1925. First edition, 1/165 copies (this #66) signed by the translator. 8vo. viii, 88 pp. Endpapers foxed, else very good. Original vellum-backed boards (spine a little browned, corners bumped), gilt spine title. (9610).

Previous owner has noted five titles on the half-title, including this one, as "always remaining the standard title on their [respective railway] subject and has made several manuscript notes to the text." Black-stamped tan cloth (rubbed), illustrated dust jacket (rubbed, a little wear at extremities). Numerous owner's stamps on endpaper, in text, and on front board), but very good.

Illustrated survey of plantations, owners, and low country life from the 17th century to the turn of the 20th century. Reprints are relatively common, but the first edition appears to be rather scarce in trade. Scattered light foxing, else very good. Decorated gray cloth (a bit soiled). (10416).

Recent scarlet polished calf and cloth, marbled endpapers, gilt title on spine, by Brian Frost & Co., Bath, Eng.; old tideline through corner of rear leaves, but a good untrimmed copy in an attractive recent binding.

Sandpoint, ID: Keokee Co, 1994. First edition, 1/225 copies signed by the author on the half-title. Additionally bound into this copy is a double-page pen-and-ink drawing by T.W. Hunter, picturing a fly fisherman on a trout stream. 8vo. 142, (3) pp. Illustrated. Hunting and fishing in the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana and Idaho. Gilt-stamped illustrated gray cloth. Fine.

Scarce in dust jacket. Lagerlöf won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1909. She was the first woman to do so.

New York (&) London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1926. First edition. 8vo. vii, 284 pp. Plates, portraits. Lamar, a boyhood friend of Woodrow Wilson in Georgia, served on that state's supreme court, 1901-1905, before being nominated to fill an associate justice's position by President William Howard Taft; he served in that capacity from 1911 until his death. Very good. Original gilt-stamped navy cloth, printed paper spine label, printed dust jacket (chipped). (#8311).

First edition. 8vo. 39 pp. The succinct ruling: "The present state of war, involving Louisiana, has swept out of existence her judicial and political system as it had existed before;" therefore, the Provisional Court is legal, Inscribed at the head of the front wrapper "Oliver H. Jones / with the kind regards of / Ch. A. Peabody." Peabody (1814-1901), a Harvard Law graduate and prominent New York attorney, served as judge for the Louisiana Provisional Court, 1863-1865. Relatively uncommon, OCLC locates 12 copies. Original printed gray wrappers (rubbed, browned, spine repaired with archival paper). Several old small circle stains to title leaf, but a good solid copy.
