Illustrated with drawings by Louise Emile Adan and etchings by Paul Edme Le Rat. Small octavo, two volumes. In one-half brown morocco over marbled paper bindings, with gilt stamping, five raised bands, marbled endpapers, and a ribbon marker. The original wrappers are bound in. This is No. IX of 20 copies printed on Antique Verge chamois paper and signed by Lagerlof, with an engraved portrait of the author signed by artist Axel Fridell. The total edition was 220 numbered copies. The first woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, Selma Lagerlof (1858-1940) assured her place in Swedish letters with this 1891 novel, which was inspsired by the legends, superstitions, and fairy tales of her native Varmland region. This novel also served as the basis for the 1924 silent film of the same name that launched Greta Garbo into stardom. Octavo, two volumes. In three-quarter blue morocco over marbled paper bindings by Isbergs (Norrkoping), with five raised bands and decorative gilt stamping. The original wrappers are bound in. The bookplate of noted art collector Dani Liebenfeld appears on each front pastedown. Quite lovely.

Versatile in many media, including oil painting, watercolor, dyepoint copper etching, and engraving, Borg excelled as a painter of cowboy genre subjects and Indian ceremonials. Nice, France: Frank Lalou, 1998. First Edition. Fine. Frank Lalou (b.1958) is a writer, artist, and Hebrew calligrapher. All of his modern-day "illuminated manuscripts" are eminently collectible, but in these bilingual renditions of sacred texts Lalou has truly found his metier. His particular calligraphic style is suited to the aesthetics of both English and Hebrew letter forms. His design also incorporates invented shapes with appear alphabetic but in fact only mimic the abstract features of a true written script. The effect is at once modernist and timeless, hinting even at a pre-Babel language. This "one of book" is signed and dated by Lalou alongside his chop stamp. Quarto. Text in Hebrew and English. Issued loose, the unsewn sheets are laid in hand-painted and hand-lettered Fabriano wrappers in black and red accents.
