Description:
Essay on language in fantasy by this celebrated author. Signed edition, #25 of 100 signed wraps copies: the signed edition had a tipped-in photo as the portrait, rather than the printed photo for the other copies: it is also on larger paper than the unsigned editions. This copy has a printed erratum leaf; the first few copies had a hand-written erratum leaf written by publisher Jeff Levin, later replaced by the printed one (sent separately, at least in my case). The signed edition is larger than the unsigned (13.5x21 cm); the hardcover (only 26 copies) is intermediate in size between them, with the sheet size 14x19 cm (add 1 cm in each direction for the binding!). (The hardcover is also signed by introduction author Vonda McIntyre; this edition isn't.) They do not fit well next to each other on the shelf. This copy is very near fine: there is a tiny discoloration on the front cover under the title, and very slight fading of a block on the upper right front cover (more visible in the photo than in… Read More

Description:
First collected edition of the first three Earthsea books by Le Guin. These are some of the finest fantasy of the 20th century. This is an odd edition: the three novels each have their own pagination. This volume has become very scarce. This volume shows slight bumping at the spine ends, some browning of the pages (the paper on British volumes of this period is notorious for this problem), and is otherwise clean and crisp throughout. The jacket shows no tears or marks, and is not price-clipped. If you wish more pictures, please ask.

Description:
A reasonable copy of this important collection. Beautiful Bok dw, one of the ones that he did separations for himself and painted with printing inks so it would come out just as he wanted. The jacket, unfortunately, has a lot of closed tears, and the price is torn off rather than clipped; small piece missing from top of the spine, not affecting the spine illustration. DJ spine is yellowed. Slight discoloration of endpapers; previous owner's name under jacket flap. First edition stated on verso of title page (but then, this didn't have a book club or a reprint, did it?). Placeholder jacket, acceptable book: I can put it in a jacket protector if you want. Additional pictures available on request.

Description:
A nice copy in a price-clipped jacket with minor wear at the spine. Inscribed by Ley to Nathan Weinberg, dated Sept 1 1949 (book publication is listed as Sept 1949 on verso of title page). No mention of later printings, as was standard for Viking first printings of this period. Tissue inserts present protecting the color endpaper illustrations. Jacket in mylar protector. Very uncommon signed, particularly in the month of publication.

Description:
Sauk City WI: Arkham House, 1963. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. A selection of Lovecraft poetry, with probably the best of his horrific poems. One of 2013 copies. This copy is signed by Frank Utpatel, the illustrator, with a "Sincerely" above it -- not personalized. Light browning to spine of jacket, very light bumping to top and bottom of book spine. Book appears unread. In Gaylord jacket protector. A nice copy. TW

Description:
Sauk City WI: Arkham House, 1963. First edition. Staplebound. Near Fine/no dustjacket (as issued). First separate edition, and first annotated edition -- one of 500 copies printed by the Villiers Press in England for Arkham House. An uncommon Lovecraft chapbook. This copy shows a slight crease in the lower right quadrant (as if bumped, though the corner itself appears sharp and unbumped). A light steaming and putting it into a book press for a few days would probably make a serious difference. Slight browning to spine and top edge, small stains on back cover. Staples beginning to rust on the inside, not on the outside. Generally a nice copy, not as pristine as one might like but still presentable. TW

Description:
Advance uncorrected proof (frequently referred to as an ARC, advance reading copy, and several other names) of this important YA novel. These are sent to reviewers and bookstores to try to drum up support for a new title, and usually include publication information that is not otherwise available -- date of publication, audience demographics and the like. The number of copies printed is smaller than the number of first edition copies. They are rarely seen signed, and are frequently not kept in very good condition. This is an excellent copy of this early state of a very sought-after book, inscribed to a known SF/Fantasy bookseller -- if you like, I'll include a provenance note about where it came from and how it got signed. Shipping outside the USA will be much more expensive than Biblio allows for; please enquire before ordering if you live outside the USA.
