Handsome full late 19th century calf, gilt extra, gilt labels, t.e.g.. Bound to contemporary style, but without wrappers, slight foxing to some margins and occasional minor discolorations, but a very good copy. The complete fifth volume, comprised of the issues for October 1794 through March 1795, plus the appended Racing Calendar. In its early volumes, the contents generally consisted of essays and articles covering all aspects of sport, including hunting of exotic game, horse racing in Britain, shooting, game laws, veterinary science, boxing, rules of card games, cricket, etc. Includes a section ("The High Court of Diana") devoted to the poetry of sport and the chase. Occasional fiction also appeared. Publication began in 1792 and ceased in 1870. ESTC P2463. CRANE & KAYE 841. NCBEL II:1309.

Folder a trifle sunned at edges, with small chip at spine crown and short crack at one joint, otherwise near fine. First edition. Prefatory essay by E. Steneberg. Copy #68 of 120 numbered copies (and 25 epreuves), signed by the artist on the justification, and with the prints signed in the plate in the lower right corner. The prints are in black on white, or two colors on white, and vary significantly in size. Mansouroff (1896 - 1983) was one of the first generation of post-Revolutionary Soviet artists, and an associate of Tatlin and Malevich.

Edited, with an introduction, by Herbert J. Seligmann. From a total edition of four hundred copies, this is one of fifty deluxe copies, numbered and signed by Marin. The approximately eighty letters collected here are largely to Alfred Stieglitz, but include as well texts contributed to exhibition catalogues, and letters to Paul Strand, Egemont Arens and Lee Simonson. This limited issue is uncommon.
