This work covers his travel, rebellions, assassina- tions and other primary commentaries. He was also an instru- ctor of English at Ko-Gakko-Rio in Tokyo. Based on his jou- rnals of "wayside jottings," it is a very readable source.He was witness to several historical & important events in Jap- an. The author lived in Yokohama and Hirosaki, and his com- ments about "Life in the Interior" is quite wonderful. He discusses in detail just what it was like in the provinces. His essays on early Yokohama life are valuable as a refere- nce on Samurai, and the offical Japan who dealt with fore- igners. Excellent early primary source. Quite SCARCE .
