A prospectus for a monograph on Pseudocyesis, or false pregnancy, published in 1937 by The Principia Press. Women who appear to be pregnant and exhibit all of the same signs and symptoms, but do not carry a fetus, are described to have Pseudocyesis. The most famous example is generally cited as Mary Tudor, though even earlier examples can be traced back to Hippocrates, who observed cases in 300 B.C. The prospectus includes a listing of other terms used for the diagnosis, as well as translations for the term in seven other languages. Printed bifolium (9" by 6").

A Cold War-era publication from the State of California Office of Civil Defense, guiding residents in how to stockpile and ration food in the event of a nuclear attack: "If there is an atomic attack on our cities there will be immediate disruption of food. Undamaged stocks in retail and wholesale will be required for emergency feeding of the homeless ... As part of your personal Civil Defense planning you should have on hand at least a three-day supply of foods" (front cover). Includes lists of recommended foods to have on hand (e.g. canned fruits and vegetables); a chart showing which foods are best to have on hand depending on fuel availability; and several sample menus, divided again into sections depending on fuel/water availability. 1891. General wear.. A souvenir album of Pompeii, featuring 15 hand finished Pochoir illustrations and one water color paintings of the frescos or tiling found in the ruins of Pompeii. The illustrations feature a variety of Roman and Greek Mythology and culture, such as Poseidon riding in his chariot, peacocks and sea serpents. There are several geometric images in the album as well that are most likely the tile flooring found in some of the villas. One of the more interesting tile work recreations in the album is entitled "Cave Canem" which Latin for "Beware of the Dog". This particular pochoir is actually of a piece of tile work found on the floor at an entrance to a villa in Pompeii depicting an attacking large black dog. The water color is not a recreation of a fresco or tile work, but rather an illustration of the bath house in Pompeii. A die-cut Terry is grommeted to front cover allowing him to tumble about space, giving the reader an introduction to Terry's trip, as he fell off the edge of dreamland and visits the universe including the pop-up sun and each of the fanciful planets in the Solar System. Includes information on the planetary symbols, the winter and summer constellations and a vovelle wheel with the positions of the planets. Educational and entertaining. Well read with general edge wear. Ink signed by previous owner front and back covers.

1835. Letter folds. Come separation at folds.. A 6" x 5 1/2" heavy card applied to the front a larger blue lettersheet. The finely decorated card depicts two detailed vignettes - One with a harp, violets, forget-me-nots and fern, the other an array of roses, pansies, forget-me-nots and more. The rose array is at the center razor cut laurel wreath with razor cut border decorations depicting sprays of grass or grain with a hashed razor design surrounding the entire border. The letter within is to dear Margaret who had requested the sender to paint a memento of friendship followed by lovely thoughts on the Beauty of mind and grace of a person. Addressed to Miss Margaret Williams on reverse. Letter sheet measures 10" x 8". Cutwork measures 6" x 5 1/2" The cutwork was most likely affixed to the letter at a later date to keep the two pieces together subsequent to Margaret completing the work.

1920. General wear.. A tri-fold brochure about the "art of physic phenomena", or more specifically crystal gazing. The front cover features a 'floating head' of the Marjah with the text, "It is his purpose to first induce you mentally to realize some things and then to realize upon your mental realizations." Stamped across the front cover in dark blue ink is the word "Marjah". The brochure describes what crystal gazing is. Claiming that "telling futures by means of the Magic Crystal is far more difficult than by other methods, so much depends on the Seer, owing to difference of individual temperament." It continues on to give instructions on how to perform a reading, such as the "purer the intent on and motive of the seer, the more lucid will be the visions accorded." As well as stating that no more than two more people, other than the seer, should be at any gazing, and that they should sit an arm's length away from one another. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1919-1926. Poor to fair. Paper extremely brittle, text block and leaves chipping and loose. Toning, dust soiling, chipping and short tears. Corners bumped with a few unobtrusive water stains to cloth. Tape repairs.. A most charming scrapbook compiled by Philadelphia socialite Helen Marshall Eliason (1896-1985), containing ten (10) original costume designs in gouache signed by the designer "R. McRae". The costume designs are rather fabulous, and include theme costumes for women titled "Xmas", "Valentine", "Washington's Birthday", "4th July", "Tennis Girl", "Air Girl", and a a girl in full skiing attire. There is also a Pirate-themed costume with an explanatory caption: "This chorus was a satire on prohibition and bootleg Pirates". The final costume design is broken into two designs. St. Louis, MO: W. E. Stephens, 1895. Age toning and crease marks at fold.. A flyer for the sale of "The Tabernacle of Witness", an engraving done by Cora Massie Stephens (1856-1943). The engraving was being sold by William Edward Stephens (1850-1918), Cora's husband and owner of W. E. Stephens & Co. (eventually renamed Stephens Lithographing and Engraving Company). The flyer is divided into two sections. The first section has a black and white print of the engraving, along with the text "Every Sunday School, and Every Pastor, Superintendent and Christian Worker should have a copy." This flyer was attempting to sell a larger and more colorful version of the engraving then was sold previously. The version for sale was 32" x 47" and has been "lithographed in ten colors and three bronzes, on heavy lithograph paper". He believes that taxation should be used in order to truly support public schools, and that it is a priority. Teachers also should be of good quality and educated in the profession in order to make schooling effective. In this address he makes it very clear that he truly believes that a good, solid education for everyone could improve not only the children's future, but the future of the country as a whole. Louis was one half of the McCrea Brothers, coal dealers based in Auburn, New York; his business card has been pasted-in, as well as his visiting card to the upper pastedown. brief descriptions of McCrea's travels are recorded, as well as a number of poems including "Oh, Why Should the Spirit of Mortal be Proud?" by William Knox, a favorite of President Lincoln's. Other excerpts include what appears to be an original composition titled "Hidden Treasures"; the poem "Be Not the First", which appeared unattributed in several contemporary periodicals; and a transcription of Psalm XXIII. A 7" x 11 1/4" pressed board box with applied litho depicting Alice, the White Rabbit, the Mouse and the Mad Hattter at the tea party. Content includes four (4) die-cut dolls. The tallest is "big" Alice at 7 1/2" and the smallest is the Queen of Hearts at 3 1/4". Also includes "little' Alice and the White Rabbit. Each of the has one to four costumes designed into the scenery - with a die-cut slit at the top of the costumes to allow placement of the doll behind the scene. Each scene has a narrative the base. Scenes numbered 1-7. Reverse si blank. Set is complete.

Akron, Ohio: Saalfield Publishing Company, 1933. Overall the condition is good, the binding shows some wear and is a bit loose.. This books has several simple and sweet stories that all center around a grandma telling anecdotes about her life when she was young to her grandchildren. 34 pages. Each story starts the same way, with a grandchild commenting on the activity or conversation being had, and then the grandma begins to reminisce. There are beautiful, full page illustrations done by Fern Bisel Peat that add to the story. The text is also full page, with one illustration for each story. 11 1/2" x 9

The text reads, "Accept this offering dear and true. Affection bids me pay to you." Image is of a serene lake with autumn trees, morning glories. Measures approx. 5.75" by 3.75

Jasper, IN, 1920. General wear and rubbing.. A three volume set that explores in depth the etymology of the English Language, in particular the Teutonic (Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family, of which Anglo Saxons spoke) element found within the language. These three volumes were hand crafted by J. T. Melchior, and include the history of the Germanic Tribes invasion of what is now the United Kingdom, language charts, vocabulary lists, and mathematical analyses of English writing samples (mostly derived from newspaper clippings) to exemplify how many English words origins are Teotonic. The author's passion for this subject comes through from the very first page, the forward, where he states: "The bold Anglo-Saxon folk who settled in the merry England at a time now long agone [sic]; and their hearty speech - OUR MOTHER TONGUE - as it was in ye olden time and as it is spoken now, herein are told about in homely self-written words.
