Six pieces of ephemera - catalogues, playing guides, letters, and special offers, as mailed to someone from the Hohner Harmonica company, ca. 1935, including the original mailing envelope. All elements in Fine condition, but for the flattened old mailing folds. Includes many engraved illustrations of what must be nearly the full line of Hohner harmonica models from this period. There is a flyer condainting a "Teacher Offer" for songbooks and instruction manuals that could be used by music teachers - perhaps the addressee was a music teacher? Altogether a nice grouping of Hohner harmonica ephemera, with excellent visual representations of the instruments.

[Cleveland]: [Guardian Savings and Trust Company], 1911. Hardcover. Very good. 12mo, 144pp. Very good in the publisher's thin red boards, soiled, but the contents clean and tight. A nicely produced facsimile of this extremely scarce first directory of the cities of Cleveland and Ohio City (then a separate municipality). Facsimiles of the original wrappers are bound in, as well. Dozens of wonderful advertisements precede the main text, and give a flavor of life in Cleveland when it was more of a frontier town than a major American city.

In a good or better dust jacet, with some sliping and darkening to the spine, and some small chips and tears. This copy SIGNED and warmly INSCRIBED by MacDonald on the front free endpaper to his close friend, the Scottish opthamologist Stewart Duke-Elder: "To Dukie from Me. J. Ramsay MacDonald." A note in light pencil from the original bookseller on the front paste-down elucidates the inscription. According to a biogaphical article about Duke-Elder in the Indian Journal of Opthamology: "In 1932, the Prime Minister of England, James Ramsay MacDonald, developed glaucoma and insisted on being treated by a Scotsman. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1924. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Octavo, 46pp. A very good copy, crisp and clean overall, but with some wear to the edges of the applied spine label. In a good, intact slipcase, with some wear at the crown (including part of the spine label, though the text is complete), and mild general wear, including a partial split near the base and at the top edge. This is copy number 629 of 1000 limited copies SIGNED by the author on the limitation page. Rather scarce, and particularly so in the slipcase.

Grand Rapids, MI: Gallmeyer & Livingston Co, 1930. Staplebound. Good. Quarto, 27pp., illustrated. A good copy only in the publisher's printed stapled wraps. Wraps detached and in two pieces, but present. Internally structurally sound, and clean. Inked information of a Boston sales agent on the front wrap. Scarce trade catalogue for woodworking machines manufactured by this Grand Rapids-based company. Large illustrations of the machinery from photographs appear on almost every page. Though undated, likely ca. 1929-1930 by appearances. Some extra ephemera laid-in to the catalogue. OCLC records several catalogues from this manufacturer, but we found none in commerce as of this listing.

Mild curling to extremities, a few stray marks, and previous owner's name on the first leaf, else clean. A scarce political tract advocating Pan-Africanism and socialism as a cure for many of the problems palguing the continent. We locate several copies in OCLC, but none in commerce as of this listing. Scarce.

Octavo, 255pp. A crisp, clean, unmarked copy, about fine, in a very near fine dust jacket, price-clipped by the publisher with another printed price remaining on the flap ($3.75). Uncommon in this condition.

A fresh, clean copy, near fine, with gentle dust-soiling to the top edge, and age-toning to the first and last few leaves, due to the acid in the endpapers. In the vanishingly scarce dust jacket, with two amateur repairs at the front flap and front spine joints, and some edge chips, but retaining the entirety of the front illustration and spine title; overall in fair condition, but presenting nicely in a clear jacket protector. A gift inscription dated Christmas 1886 suggests the likely publication date, making this a very early dust jacket.

Prelims loosened, hinges cracked, general edgewear, some stray pencil doodles to title page (though clean internally). Strictly a reading/reference copy of this uncommon turn-of-the-century history of South Africa, published just before the Boer War.

New York: S. T. Gordon, 1860. first Edition (?). Softcover. Very good. Quarto, 5pp., including engraved title page, printed in green. Very good, evidently removed from a bound volume. 3-inch tear to the final leaf, affecting the advertisements, but not the interior contents, which have wide margins. Some internal foxing. Undated volume of sheet music with a wonderful cover illustration depicting the subject, a hapless misfit who can't hack it in the military, but somehow retains his title as "Captain Jinks of the Horse-Marines." Though undated, the 706 Broadway address was home to publisher S. T. Gordon from 1858-1863 (according to brasshistory . net), which certainly comports with the appearance of this volume.

Spine cocked, some gently foxing to extremities, and some mild shelfwear. Attractive bookplate on the verso of the front wrap. Scarce proof copy, with dozens of pages of hand-corrections in pencil (we are unsure who made them). Many corrected typos, and a handful of more substantive inquiries/edits. Scarce.

Chicago: Privately printed, 1919. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good-. Octavo, 131pp., illustrated. About very good in the publisher's navy cloth. Some soiling to boards, and some very faint attendant waviness to a number of pages (though there are no tidemarks). Still a clean, sound copy. One small stamp to one preliminary leaf. Quite uncommon privately published volume, which reprints the letters from Kenneth MacLeish (brother of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Archibald) to his family while in Europe fighting the First World War. Kenneth MacLeish died in combat, shot down over Belgium. Scarce in commerce.

A few creases to the first leaf, else fine. All signatures present. This is an author's proof that was likely used as a review copy, as we've seen several other examples for sale. Still, a rare volume, attractive in this condition. Comes in a sturdy, attractive blue cloth clamshell box.
