About this Item: Bobbs-Merrill Company, Indianapolis, 1907. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Will Grefe (illustrator). 1st Edition. The Best man published October 1907 by Bobbs- Merril Co. is considered by a many cultural anthropologists as a window into the early 20th century America. Macgrath was a best selling short story author and wrote for among other magazines,The Saturday Evening Post, Red Book and ladies Home journal. Book is bound in green textured cloth with a nice blind stamp, presumably of the bride on the front cover. Lettering is gilt. Book is very clean and unmarked except for a former owners name penciled on the front paste down. There are a number of period ( early 20th century) illustrations by Will Grefe. This copy is quite a nice collectible.

Memoirs of Li Hung Chang with the story of a literary forgery by Ralph D. Paine. A tumultuous autobiography by a man hose zest for adventure has led him into strange hazards in al parts of the world. Interesting book written by a jailed vagabond newspaperman. One of the great literary hoaxes of the time. Mannix, the jailed vagabond without the help of newspapers or research tools of any kind, wrote this hoax which became a very compelling novel. Book is near fine with the bottom of spine and bottom corners slightly bumped, top of spine shows minor wear. The text block is slightly tanned. Cover is in VG condition, with darkened spine and large quarter" chip at top of spine. Folds and corners of this price clipped cover have been neatly repaired on verso.
