Description:
A reasonably nice copy of the first printing of this important best-seller which combines philosophy, madness, and motorcycling. Difficult to find in first printing. This copy has a small water/coffee stain affecting the bottom of the spine of both book and jacket: it's not visible on the external jacket, and most visible on the endpapers. This is a copy that will look smart on the shelf -- significantly better than just a reading copy, but not flawless. And as such, it's significantly cheaper than the flawless ones. Trade edition, not book club -- jacket intact with $7.95 price on front flap. The photos include the spine bottom and the lower right corner of the back cover; the others should be self-explanatory.

Description:
Collins White Circle Pocket Edition #228. Great 1940s cover! Colonel Anthony Gethryn must prove a man innocent of a murder he's been convicted for in only 5 days. MacDonald was a great practitioner of the mystery-suspense genre; his books remain readable, even if his characters are nowhere near as enlightened as we tend to be today. Please read this volume in its historical context. A very clean copy, spine slightly darkened with very faint reading crease: see photos.

Description:
McHugh's exceedingly scarce first novel. At the time of listing this, I can find no other copies of this title online. McHugh is known for several later works including I Am Thinking of My Darling, a novel about a plague of happiness striking NY; Caleb Catlum's America, which Robert Heinlein claimed was one of his inspirations for Time Enough for Love; and poetry, both his own and translated from the Chinese. This book is near fine, with a good condition jacket which is slightly frayed, taped in several places and slightly discolored on the spine. The jacket presents well. There is slight fading of the cloth on the top edge, and the spine is bumped. See pictures. Previous owner's discreet inscription on FFE. More pictures available on request: I'm running into a glitch in the uploading process for the pictures.

Description:
Early Don Grant hardcover: per both the jacket and the inside limitation page, this is one of 350 copies, all signed. Chalker and Owings (3rd ed) say that Grant told them there were 500 copies, but that seems likely to be a lapse in Grant's memory (and Chalker/Owings has enough other errors, including in the Mirage Press entry, for me to take anything they say with a grain of salt). This book is a very early example of "sympathy for the monster" fiction, and includes the original sequel from Weird Tales, "The Werewolf's Daughter". A fairly scarce book: this copy is clean inside (as most are -- its owners must read very carefully); the jacket has several small tears, notably at the top and bottom of the spine, and a small line of discoloration on the right front side. It's also slightly folded over the top of the book, as if it hadn't been pressed down correctly at some point. The book presents well on the shelf.

Description:
How does one list a problematic book?I am listing this because it's got a very nice binding: full vellum, with vellum endpapers, gold tooling and a nice leather label on the spine. The name of the bindery, Sammarco, is on the page between the cover and the half-title. The front binding lis split. This is an ex-library copy from the University of San Francisco (I checked: they didn't want it back when I asked). Several pages have their name punched through the sheets. This copy has the original covers and spine bound in. Text is in Italian. It's a very nice artifact. It represents a reality in the world's history. We need not to lose our history. More pictures available on request. All proceeds from this sale will go to Docore Without Borders (Medecines sans Frontiers). We need to remember; we need to move forward.

Description:
There are a few fantasy novels that are truly sui generis. From the opening ("If I had cared to live, I would have died" one of the best narrative hooks ever!) to its satisfying return of the protagonist to the Real World, this book does not let up as it romps through English literature (with bits of American and other classical tropes tossed in). If you don't know the book, you probably aren't going to buy a hardcover even at this reasonable price; if you do know the book, you probably want a better jacket. So: here's a placeholder copy that you can read and reread. I'll add a jacket protector if you like, but this jacket is hardly worth protecting. Previous owner's name sticker on half-title.While I have your attention, let me say that Myers' other novels from before 1960 are paced in a very similar way -- they don't have the sense of a romp through literature, but The Wild Yazoo and Dead Warrior are both great introductions to the American West, and Out on Any Limb is an amusing UK historical. The…
