Text pages are browned as usual for the poor paper used; The cover is well rubbed, the inner hinge taped at an early date, and has separated from the text block. While the cover is only in good condition, the text block is in very good condition. Scarce WWII account of Naval Cadets Pre-Flight Training, including some based on actual war episodes. The editors acknowledged the cooperation of the Division of Physical Training of the Naval Bureau of Aeronautics in preparing the material. .

Half leather, spine in 6 compartments, gilt; maroon colored pebbled cloth, gilt title on the upper board; all edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. With 44 full page chromolithographed illustrations of the uniforms of the United States Army from 1775 to 1888, accompanied by Nelson's text in letterpress. The lithographs are after water colors by H. A. Ogden. Prepared and executed by the Quartermaster General of the United States under authority of the Secretary of War. Lithographed by G. H. Buek & Co. De Luxe edition, one of 1500 copies of which this is No. 51. Reissued in 1959 and 1998, but the reissues are a pale reflection of the beauty of the original chromolithographs. Illustrated with 22 full page magnificent chromolithographed plates, 18 uncolored plates, and text illustrations. Contemporary half leather binding by Riviere, spine in 7 compartments with raised bands, gilt; pebble grain victorian cloth sides, marbled endpapers in a snail pattern, top edge gilt. A preliminary notice by Augustus Franks provides an obituary of Felix Slade, who died just before this work was completed. This is followed by Slade's Preface and by Nesbit's History of Glassmaking, a comprehensive view. Tipped onto a preliminary blank is a printed letter by Franks addressed in manuscript to Frederick Tucker, Esq, of 91 Victoria Street, presenting this volume to him. Very good. 4to. xiii, (i), 547,(i)pp. Engraved frontispiece of the abbey; folding hand-colored map of Hertford, and two folding plans of the abbey. Contemporary full calf, nicely rebacked to style in matching calf, red leather lettering label, gilt. Frontispiece mounted without loss, some offsetting and light soil, rebacked, else a very good copy. Apparently this is a reissue of the sheets of an edition printed in 1793-95; either way it is the first separate publication relating to St. Alban's. ESTC TS 3399.

Kyoto, 1952. Hardcover. Very good plus. Third edition. Folio, bound accordion book. 32 leaves of heavy card printed. Fifteen full page illustrations in full color of fabric bags used to house tea jars or kettles for use in the traditional tea ceremony. Each plate contains four images with a facing letterpress explanation in Japanese. Both the plates and the letterpress printings are tipped in. The boards are covered in a printed paper with a paper label to the upper board. This is the third printing, preceded by two printings in larger format, but scarce in its own right. The boards are worn at the edges, and the color plates have pulled away at the corners where they are adhered, with some resulting tearing of the paper though not affecting any of the images. .

With six large chromolithographed pop-ups and numerous black and white vignettes in text. Pictorial boards with brown cloth backstrip. Floral endpapers. Boards moderately worn at the edges with some scuffs and soiling. Front hinge cracked a few pages into text causing the text block to be a bit shaky. All pop-up illustrations are complete and in working order. Very good.

Ernest Nister, 1890. Six die-cut, stamd-ip, chromolithographs paper dolls in original box. The dolls are in fine condition; the box shows signs of wear and early repairs to the corners. Scarce.

Conjectural date range is based on the year of first flight of airship Le Republique, illustrated on page [12], in 1908, and date of inscription on front flyleaf. "No. 3521" on title-page. Illustrated with Illustrated with 10 full color chromolithographed plates; 7 full page black and white plates, and numerous text illustrations. Neat ink inscription dated 1913 on the front free endpaper. Boards worn at edges and the rear board worn in a pattern, one page with a short marginal closed tear (no loss) else this is a very good copy and quite scarce in this condition.

Apparently the copy of A. A> PHipps of Smithfield, NY. There are contemporary ink notations in the front: "This to A. Alton Phipps", then, "A. A. Phipps Book". In the rear, in what might be a different hand, is "A. A. Phips Smithfield." A farmer and a professional violinist, Northup had been a landowner in New York. All dustwrappers are present, likewise in fine condition, and with the prices intact on the dustwrapper flaps. 'Empire of Ivory' has a bookplate signed by the author laid in. This series optioned for a movie by Peter Jackson.
