Slightly later full russian calf, smooth spine, divided into six panels by gilt rules, author and title in gilt to second panel, remaining panels with central square device made up of small flower heads and dots, covers with gilt single fillet border. Spine slightly faded, minor rubbing to extremities, internally some light browning, but generally clean. From the library of Earl Eldon, with his name and bookplate to front pastedown. First Edition. Full Calf. Good+. 8vo.

Description:
London: W. Miller, 1805. [5], vi-x, [1], 2-98pp, plates. Slightly later half calf and marbled paper over boards, smooth back divided into six panels by gilt rolls, lacking title label to second panel, remaining panels with indistinct fleuron tool in gilt. Heavily rubbed to extremities, upper joint split but holding, marbled paper covering boards is chipped to edges with some loss. Internally the text is browned and occasionally foxed throughout, plates are brighter and cleaner, though plate twenty-three has a damp stain just catching the vignette. Long inscription in pencil to second front free endpaper. With additional engraved title page by William Henry Pyne after Nattes which has been bound after the letterpress title, and forty-five plates (numbered 1-44 with two plate 23's). The 'problems' are engraved by T. King (mentioned briefly in Alexander, 'A Biographical Dictionary of British and Irish Engravers 1714-1820', page 524), and nearly all of the 'problems' have a vignette to the foot by Pyne… Read More

London: Suttaby, Evance and Company, 1820. v, [2], 8-182pp, modern full calf by Bayntun-Riviere, semi-raised bands, spine in six panels, title label to second panel, bands bordered by gilt rules, date in gilt to foot of spine, covers with blind single fillet border. Externally a couple of minor scrapes but generally very good, internally light browning to text, occasional light foxing, closed tear to 2Z, aquatints quite bright and clean. Original paper label laid on to ffep, with previous owners name to head. Complete with seven (six coloured) aquatints. The preferred second edition, Abbey Scenery 459, which notes as Abbey 456 (the first edition), "but much richer tinting". Second Edition. Full Calf. Good+. Illus. by Alken, S.. 4to.
