Denver: The W. H. Kistler Stationery Co., 1935., 1935. First edition. First Edition. Large Quarto. Blue Cloth. XXV, 533pp. Over 160 Illustrations, primarily from old photographs. 13 Maps. A rare and important history of all military organizations of Colorado. Begins with their role in a few battles in the Civil War, but the problems with hostile Indians during that same period are detailed here. The battle at Sand Creek, Colonel Chivington's report of the battle, the territorial militia, and the 1st Colorado Infantry receive much attention here. Also includes the Indian War of 1868, the Meeker Massacre, the Ute campaigns of 1879, the Leadville Strikes of 1880, and the White River Expedition against the Utes in 1887. In addition, various later strikes, the Spanish-American War, and subsequent World Wars are also covered here. Some very slight rubbing to edges and a few minor spots on covers, else an uncommonly clean, tight, attractive copy of this important military history. Near fine.

Kansas City: Franklin Hudson Publishing Co., 1905., 1905. First edition. First edition. 6 3/4: x 5" original pictorial wrappers, 99 pp., illustrated. An account of a young man's experiences traveling the Santa Fe Trail in 1857. William B. Napton was a young Missourian who joined a wagon train when he was eighteen. He provides a vivid glimpse into the challenges, adventures, and cultural encounters faced by travelers along this iconic trail as they journeyed through vast prairies, rugged mountains, and arid deserts. Forty years later he wrote of his experiences and the book was published at Kansas City in 1905 ... Napton preserved sharp, indelible images of the nation's enchanted Trail: the crack of bullwhips, the threats of Indians, long days of endless plodding broken by a wild dash for buffalo or elk, the practical jokes of the rough teamsters, and the iron rule of the wagon master. Covers moderately used, faint vertical crease to the front cover, else a good+ copy. A rare book and… Read More
