Bound in red cloth, gilt lettering on spine and cover, showing a pitcher's windup on the cover. 7.5" x 5" In his seven-page introduction, Connie Mack, then manager of the Philadelphia Athletics, tells of his friendship with author Needham who accompanied the A's on several Western game trips. This work contains two long stories with baseball settings: The Double Squeeze and The Jinx. Mr. Mack, as we knew him when I was a kid and played neighborhood ball with his grandson, here calls The Jinx "the best baseball story I have ever read." [Smith, American Fiction, 1901-1925, N-28.].

New York: Gurney & Son, 1870. Original document. Very Good. Head-and-shoulders sepiatone portrait of Neilson in white dress, her hair in one long braid, looking at the camera. Printed below the image is "Mora, 707 Broadway." On the verso, "Neilson" is written in pencil [not an authentic signature]. Neilson (1850-1880)was born in Spain to English parents, and returned to England with her parents at a young age. She debuted on stage as Julia in "The Hunchback" in 1865, and starred as Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet" that same year. Neilson made her American debut in 1872, again as Juliet, at Booth's Theatre, and went on to other New York performances in the 1870s. She died at age 30, according to an obit in "The Illustrated London News.

Printed below the image is "Gurney & Son, Fifth Ave, N.Y." On the verso is the Gurney crest and name, Fifth Avenue, Cor. 16th St., N.Y. Gloucester County, NJ, 1888. Original manuscript. Very Good. 2-1/3pp, typewritten, accomplished by hand. Describes in detail a tract of land in the Monroe Township, Gloucester County, mentioning the properties of Daniel Prossers, J.A. Bodine, Job Eldridge, and Thomas W. Chew. Signed by John H. Bradway, Charles S. Krisell, and John J. Jessup. 13" x 8" John H. Bradway of Gloucester County was a member of the New Jersey House of Assembly. He died in Woodbury in 1904 at the age of 85. "He was a valued overseer of Woodbury Preparative Meeting, and will be much missed by this lilttle band of Friends." ("Friends Intelligencer," Vol. 62.) ~ Charles S. Knisell was County Collector of Gloucester County. ~ John S. Jessup (1842-1911) was a Judge of the Gloucester County Common Pleas Court.

Bound in dark-red cloth, gilt spine lettering; bindings and endpapers damp-marked, into upper portion of text block in volume two. 9.25" x 5.75" Provenance: Signature of George Macintosh Maclean in gutter margins of both title-pages. Maclean (1806-1886) was a member of Princeton University's class of 1824, a physician, professor of chemistry and natural history, &., &c.
