Light shelfwear to boards, embossed previous owner's name to front endpaper, inner joints a little tender and book a bit shaken. An attractive copy of O'Neill's experimental play which won the Pullitzer and was made into a major film in 1932. Because it is around 5 hours long, makes extensive use of extended soliloquy and was much censored outside NYC for its themes of mental illness, abortion, infidelity and women's sexuality, its reputation has waned. The play has in interesting food connection - it was banned in Boston (of course) in 1929 by the mayor and the production moved to Quincy, near the first Howard Johnson's restaurant where it was discovered by the Boston cognoscenti which led to much word of mouth and national attention.
