Spine panel sunned, jacket rubbed along edges with a few small chips and nicks. A bestselling expose of the use of psychological techniques in advertising. Its influence has extended far beyond the book's original context-- laughably sexualized and manipulative ads for cigarettes, cars with fins, pills for "harried housewife syndrome" etc.-- to inform the way consumers see ads to this day. As media critic Mark Crispin Miller noted in the 50th-anniversary reissue's foreword, no other "popular critique of advertising moved the public, or changed their views of that essential corporate craft, as deeply or enduringly.

Very Good (as a poster grade) with a horizontal fold through middle of poster with a closed tear on the right edge; two slight horizontal creases as well. Right edge has a few small abrasions. Toned with age. A few small edge tears and a few stains, a little foxing to verso, curling towards edges. A rare poster for folk / sometimes psych band Holy Modal Rounders, issued after the band sans Peter Stampfel decamped for Portland, Oregon and released their sixth album Alleged in Their Own Time. Illustrator Henk Pander is a longtime fixture of the Portland arts scene.

[New York?]. Near Fine. circa 1969-1971. Silk-screen poster, 17" x 22, thin fragile yellow paper printed in red and blue. Near Fine with minor wear on bottom edge. The Panther 21 was a group of twenty-one Black Panther members who were arrested and accused of planned coordinated bombing and long-range rifle attacks on two police stations and an education office in New York City in 1969, who were all acquitted by a jury in May 1971, after revelations during the trial that police infiltrators played key organizing roles. A very scarce poster with none traced in a recent OCLC search, though two holdings list a smaller poster with the same title with the credit line of the Committee to Defend the Panthers.

A lovely copy, signed by the author.

Near Fine with bumping to top corner, some sticker schmutz on rear cover. Uncommon signed.The follow-up to Parfrey's original anthology Apocalpyse Culture, first published in 1987 by his initial publishing concern, Amok Press, and then heavily revised when reprinted by his imprint Feral House. The book had a huge cultural impact, acting as a gateway drug for many readers, introducing them to wild fringe ideas and obscure figures that, pre-internet, they probably never would have encountered otherwise. All but roughly 30 copies of the first impression were scrapped due to a printing mishap.) [35] pp. Heavy black wraps with slick white label wrapped around fold. A Near Fine copy with a little rubbing to label, thumb crease, and light shelf wear, but still very clean and sharp. This little chapbook, designed by Kemper Nomland, Jr. was printed in a WWII conscientious objectors' camp after regular work hours. City Lights founder Lawrence Ferlinghetti admired a copy, noting how the white label stylishly obscured the staples beneath that bound it, and copied it for his Pocket Poets series, which would prove to have some of the most iconic Beat poetry books such as Allen Ginsberg's Howl. First edition; one of a limited 75 numbered copies prepared with covers hand painted by Kenneth Patchen, with colophon signed and painted by the poet as well. Near Fine with wear to edges of boards and toning to pages. Patchen often experimented with different forms of writing and incorporated painting, drawing, and jazz music into his works. He has been hailed as a major influence on the San Francisco Renaissance and the Beat Generation.

A surprisingly difficult title to find in the first printing.

New York: The American National Party, 1962. Rare original broadside of a splinter-group from The American Nazi Party, The American National Party, co-founded by the disaffected right-hand man of George Lincoln Rockwell, John Patler (born John Patsalos). The group's other founder was Daniel Burros, who died (reputedly of suicide) after being exposed as being of Jewish heritage by The New York Times in 1965. Patler would rejoin the Nazi Party but then five years later assassinate Rockwell at an Arlington, Virginia laundromat, briefly gaining national notoriety. He would later change his name back to Patsalos (from the Hitlerian "Patler") and repudiate his earlier racism. 8.5" x 14". Very Good+. Folded in fours, faint date of 1962 written along bottom margin in pencil. An interesting snapshot of the tumultuous American far right political scene in the early '60s.
