Description:
Richmond: Garrett and Massie, 1932. Hard Cover. near Very Good binding. Quarto. xvi, 206 pp. First edition, signed by Page on the half title. As issued, backed in cloth with cloth-over-boards; spine sunned and covers a bit soiled; contents clean. This copy is from the library of Eppa Hunton IV, grandson of the Confederate General and United States Senator by the same name. Additionally is a letter from Page to Hunton IV about the book and the several mentions of General Hunton in this epic poem. Page remarks about having read some of these passages from the manuscript to Hunton IV's father; a warm note indeed; laid in typed response (unsigned) to Page. Hunton IV has noted in pencil the pages on which his both of his grandfathers appear, General Eppa Hunton and General Willam Payne. There is pencil underlining and brief marginal notes at those pages. A very nice association copy.

Boston: Adams & Nourse, 1788. Original Wrappers. Very Good binding. Octavo. 46, [2] pp. First edition. As issued, stitched into self-wrappers, untrimmed. Covers toned and contents foxed; one leaf with a long closed tear at the top margin intruding a couple of lines into the text, but generally a very nice copy with a contemporary presentation inscription on the front wrapper. Description:
Broadside. Print. Image is 8" x 6" on and 11" x 7.5" sheet. Printed in black on cream paper, recto only. No date but Patri was active from the 1920s-1970s but this is early- to mid-20th century. A powerful print of a soldier holding a rifle behind a group of men, all looking over their shoulders with anger. One man is holding up the frame of a slumping woman. Near fine. Giacomo Patri was an Italian-born illustrator, painter, instructor who emigrated to San Francisco as a teen. He studied at The California School of Fine Arts. He taught at the California Labor School before it closed, a casualty of McCarthyism. In 1948 he founded his own school, the Patri School for Art Fundamentals which was aimed at teaching adults with no art background. An important artist and educator, today is perhaps most remembered for his 1940 wordless novel, White Collar: A Novel in Linocuts, a story of workers during the Depression.
