Hardcover. Very Good. Elephant Folio - over 15 - 23" tall. A collection of 74 images by Sandby Folio, 74 etchings on 26 sheets, recently rebound in half calf, several leaves stained, marginal tears, 1 pl with small hole to margin and sm mark to pl. Sheets 468*320 mm, some offsetting, some dated 1750, 51, 52 & 1758, & they vary in size. The volume was probably issued in the mid 1770's by Sayer and Bennet who in their catalogue for 1775 offer a similar collection of landscapes and figure engravings "on twenty nine copper plates, designed etched and engraved by Paul and M. Chatelain". "They merit a place in the cabinets of the curious and are useful studies to those who would draw landscapes with taste and effect. Most of the prints here the work of Paul". Some interesting titles: 'Etched from the life on board a Scotch Ship, The Cook, Captain & Mait'; 'John Balfours Coffee house at Edinburgh'.
