A life story with photographs by Peter Pitseolak. Peter Pitseolak took his first picture in the 1930s and the pictures in this book range from the early 1940s to the 60s. He the first native Baffin Island photographer, born in the November of 1902. As a child he lived a traditional nomadic life followed by his ancestors, but the intrusion of modern life - government, schools, nurses etc. was to change the Inuit way of life dramatically by the time of his death. A fascinating photographic history. This copy itself is interesting as it has what I assume are Inuit syllabics, written in pencil on the front and rear inner covers. Crease to rear cover and some edge wear, generally in good clean condition inside.

Contents include an overview of Monaco, casinos, players, fair and foul play, the philosophy of the play, the suicides of Monaco etc. Written in an engaging style, the pleasures and problems of gambling remain the same today as then. Ex reference library with pictorial bookplate on front pastedown, bookplate on rear pastedown, stamp on first and one other page. Occasional marks, generally clean.

This is the first edition of the classic Latin text of Casaubon relating to the Greek and Roman military, together Aeneas's tactical memoir. Originally published in 1609 in Greek and Latin. Ex reference library, which probably explains its survival, with 19th century library labels on spine, pictorial bookplate on rear pastedown and numbers hand-written in pencil on reverse of title page. Hand-written presentation note in ink on front free endpaper dated 1871. Some loss of paper at front pastedown, no rear free endpaper. Some foxing /marking and signs of age in text , generally the inner book is clean and in remarkably good condition for its age.

Generally very good inside with occasional spotting. This is considered a superior version of this work due to the fine illustrations. Originally published in 1764, this purported to be a translation from Perisan of collected stories, whereas they were in fact Ridley / Morell's own invention.
