Rebound in cloth, authors name on front panel. (Sabin 58222) Occasional toning to leaves, some wear from handling. A nice example of this later printing by Thomas Paine. The first edition of this work was printed in 1782 in Philadelphia, with the first English edition appearing the same year.

Octavo, viii, 720pp. Full green morocco, gilt embellishments on covers. Title stamped in gilt on front cover and spine, raised bands with decorative gilt compartments. All edges gilt. Decorative gilt turn-ins. Extremities and spine rubbed, corners and spine tips lightly worn. Upper corner of front cover slightly bowed. Scratch to leather on back cover. Endpapers cracked at hinges, but binding is solid. Marginalia, primarily in the section with the poem "Don Juan." Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover, plus 12 illustrated plates. Features a fore-edge painting of two golfers and their caddies out on the course. A nice example.

Palmer flew 158 combat missions with the 100th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group during World War II. He was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen from 1942-1945. He flew P-39's, P-40's, P-47's and P-51's, logging 400 hours of combat hours during the war. In retirement he wrote Flying With Eagles: Memoirs of an Original Tuskegee Airman. Walter Palmer died in 2009.
