Alder Gulch (alternatively called Alder Creek) is a place in the Ruby River valley, in the U.S. state of Montana, where gold was discovered on May 26, 1863, by William Fairweather and a group of men including Barney Hughes, Thomas Cover, Henry Rodgers, Henry Edgar and Bill Sweeney who were returning to the gold fields of Grasshopper Creek, Bannack, Montana. They were on their way to Yellowstone Country from Bannack but were waylaid by a band of Crow Indians. After being ordered out of Crow hunting grounds, they crossed the East Slope of the Tobacco Root Mountains and camped for the night in Elk Park, where William "Bill" Fairweather and Henry Edgar discovered gold, while the remaining party was out hunting for meat. Agreeing to keep the new discovery quiet the group of miners returned to the town of Bannack for supplies. However, word leaked out about the… Read More

"All the tricks in this book are well within the range of the amateur magician. Some, of course, need a little more practice than others ... and it pays to rehearse them thoroughly, in front of an audience of family and close friends, before trying them out on a larger audience. This handy book gives tips and patter to help put your act over: what to say when tricks go right, when they go wrong, how to use your own personal appearance as the subject of jokes--and how to 'put down' the person who interrupts your act. Scattered throughout the book are Quickies--short jokes that you can slip into your routine whenever the chance arises."

Reflections on The Revolution in France
by Edmund Burkeand The Rights of Man by Thomas Paine

A Dolphin Book published by Doubleday & Company, Inc. 1961, #: C246, Soft bound, Very Good+ condition (Cover is soiled and has a crease on the front cover, previous owners name in ink on first page, price crossed out in ink at top of first page). These two excellent books are a must for those who are interested in French or World history.Because the French Revolution was, in Burke's phrase, "the most astonishing event...in human history," a full seventeen months elapsed after the first meeting of the National Assembly before any notable public figure dared to interpret the events in France to an awe-struck world. In November 1790, Burke published his Reflections on The Revolution in France, a masterpiece of political analysis and prediction which ran through ten editions in the first year. Many attempts were made to refute Burke's attack on the Revolution, of which none was more… Read More

Published by North Point Press, a division of Farrar, Straus and Giroux, New York 1998, ISBN#: 0865475326, Soft bound, New/Mint condition. Twenty-four million people live within one hundred miles of Long Island Sound, the 110-mile-long body of water that separates Long Island from Connecticut and New York's mainland. Yet the land, sky, and inter-tidal areas that Mary Parker Buckles explores in Margins, as well as the water itself, have remained virtually uncelebrated until now. While the Sound has been endangered by pollution and development, it is far from dead, as some picture it. Buckles' inspired explorations show that, in fact, it teems with life and is well worth our attention. With a deft touch and a naturalist's keen eye, Buckles introduces herself - and us - to this stimulating environment. Blending hard science with her own often… Read More
