DJ has some wear and soiling. Edward Schaumberg Quade helped develop the problem-solving method of systems analysis a Rand Corporation spokesman said. Mr. Quade joined RAND when it was founded in 1948 and retired in 1973. He and some colleagues devised and developed systems analysis as a recognized scientific discipline. Systems Analysis was defined as ''a systematic approach to helping a decision-maker choose a course of action by investigating his full problem, searching out objectives and alternatives, and comparing them in the light of their consequences.'' Mr. Quade studied physics and mathematics at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and earned his doctorate at Brown University. Santa Monica, CA: The RAND Corporation, 1964. good. 382, wraps, figures, charts, appendices, bibliography, index, some wear and soiling to covers and spine. This intensive five-day course on systems analysis designed for decisionmakers did not attempt to teach operations research but to point out the weaknesses and possible abuses, as well as the effectiveness, of an analytic approach to long-range military planning. It was based on the premise that a decisionmaker can appreciate analysis and use its results with confidence without knowing how to perform it.

Washington, DC: U. S. Government Printing Office, 2004. Wraps. Very good. No dust jacket as issued.. iii, 79 p. Footnotes. Serial No. 108-83. The Cross Sound Cable was described as the first of its kind, merchant transmission project and had been approved by the Environmental and Siting Agencies of New York and Connecticut. It was approved by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Public Utility Commissions of both States found that the project would benefit the consumers in their State. When the project was unable to comply with its permits, the owners immediately contacted the appropriate agencies. The State of Connecticut then 'shut it down completely'. This hearing was to examine the benefits of the project and whether the Department of Energy had authority they could exercise in this matter.

For millennia, lions, tigers and their man-eating kin have kept our dark, scary forests dark and scary and their predatory majesty has been the stuff of folklore. But by the year 2150, big predators may only exist on the other side of glass barriers and chain-link fences. Their gradual disappearance is changing the very nature of our existence. We no longer occupy an intermediate position on the food chain; instead we survey it invulnerably from above-so far above that we are in danger of forgetting that we even belong to an ecosystem. Casting his eye over the rapidly diminishing areas of wilderness where predators still reign, David Quammen… Read More
