A renowned career diplomat, Habib (1920-92) was an authority on Southeast Asia, President Ronald Reagan's personal representative to the Middle East, and a special envoy to some of the world's most dangerous flash points. In 1982, Habib was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor. Red buckram binding, with gilt lettering. Some general minor sunning and rubbing to the dust jacket; otherwise a crisp, very good copy. Inscribed by Author.

Inscribed on the front flyleaf: "To Shirl and Murray with the best wishes of 'Ellery Queen' (Danny)". The recipients were Frederick Dannay's sister-in-law and her husband. A pioneering work, billed as the first bibliography of the detective short story. It played an important role in the acceptance of the genre as serious literature. Octavo: 146 p. Original marbled paper-covered boards over a burgundy cloth spine, with a printed paper spine label. A duplicate spine label is tipped in on the rear spine label. Just a hint of edgewear, with some mild toning to the spine label. Near fine.
