Description:
(Voir en bas pour la traduction en français.) Rare collection. This set of periodicals was originally bound for the library of one Monseigneur Maurice Baudoux (1902-1988), Officer of the Order of Canada and archbishop of Saint Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. He was awarded the honour of the OC for his work in the western provinces on behalf of French Canada. The binder was the MontrĂ©al-based Reliure Deshaies & Associes. The present listing includes 11 bound volumes of periodicals, in orange/brown hardcover, which contain an estimated 16500 pages in total. French language. The sizes vary from 28 - 35 cm tall. Note that there are two gaps in this collection (most of 1962 and 1968). The volumes are, by and large, in Very Good condition. Most of the covers show mild to moderate shelfwear, including but not limited to scrapes and rubbing, and a few are predictably shaken (very thick volumes) but otherwise securely bound without any major defect. Internally, the covers of each issue are generally somewhat… Read More

First Edition stated. 306 p. Dust jacket is worn with some edge tears/chipping and price sticker residue. Hardcover book is in Fine condition. From the dust jacket:Berton RouechĂ© writes: "I've read it with enjoyment. It's really quite an unusual thriller—wonderfully muted." When Bob Turbett got out of the cab in front of Mrs. West's, the first thing he noticed was the lawns. He was the man who would have to mow them. It was his summer job, helping out at Mrs. West's in return for room and breakfast while he was study at summer school. The house was an angular gray monster; the woman who opened the door to his ring had eyes that blinked and roamed, and uncared-for hair, held in place randomly. She said she was Miss Summers, Mrs. West's sister. "Mrs. West doesn't feel up to seeing you right now," she said. "You're going to have the room on the top floor. Betty Clay used to have it, but she's a paying guest now, on the second floor." Miss Summers was about to help Bob carry his things up to the… Read More

Please see listing images. From the dust jacket: In his eighty-first year our greatest living philosopher, shortly after winning the Nobel Prize for Literature, has turned to fiction. "A few words may be in order," writes Lord Russell, "to mitigate any surprise that might be felt. I do not think that the reader's surprise to find me attempting stories can be greater than my own. For some reason entirely unknown to me I suddenly wished to write the stories in this volume, although I had never before thought of doing such a thing. I am incapable of critical judgment in this field and I do not know whether the stories have… Read More
