An original, cinema-used, first-screening Finnish poster for the French movie CET HOMME EST DANGEREUX, starring Eddie Constantine. The film was first screened in Finland in 1955 with no further theatrical release. The poster was printed by Piirtopaino Oy and measures 23.75 inches x 15.75 inches (60.5 cm x 40cm) approx, Standard Finnish A2. Artist signed in the plate. Condition: C8 (VG to Fine). This poster has a folding crease to the middle, not unduly noticable. Multiple pinholes - which is why it only qualifies for a C8 as it looks like a C9. Small nick to bottom edge (less than 1cm). London: Hamish Hamilton, 2005. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine. An extremely scarce UK Uncorrected Proof Copy of the author's international bestseller which was subsequently filmed. This copy has a HARDCOVER binding. While it is not unknown for proof copies to be published in hardback (W.G. Sebald's novel Austerlitz, e.g.) in the UK it is most unusual for them to be issued in both formats, i.e. softcover and hardcover and this example is the only such that I have come across since the book was published. The publisher has used the American sheets for this version and therefore the title page identifies Houghton Mifflin as publisher. Hamish Hamilton's logo is at the foot of the backstrip, however, and the printed text at the lower cover identifies Hamish Hamilton as publisher. In Fine condition, with bumps to the spine tips and the corners of the front board. Very rare, thus, a real collector's item!

Stockholm: K.L. Beckmans, 1904. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. A fascinating copy of the first edition of this famous work. Presented to noted Scottish archaeologist James Curle "with compliments from the author". Half-leather, teg, untrimmed at the fore-edge. pp. xiv, 383, illus. In Near Fine condition, with scuffs to the leather at the backstrip, corners and edges, contents in superb clean condition, no discernible spotting. With the impressive bookplate of James Curle at the front pastedown (offsetting to the fep from that). An excellent association and the first edition is rare.

The book is in VG condition with pushing to the spine tips but otherwise in nice clean condition. Helsinki: Pathe Exchange, 1925. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Good. A Finnish cinema poster for the 1924 silent-movie Leatherstocking, based on the novel by James Fenimore Cooper. The poster is actually for a double bill, including the 11-reel feature The Leather Pushers starring Reginald Denny (1923). The main feature premiered in Helsinki on December 3rd, 1924 and this poster is for the screening that took place at the Lyyra Cinema, Helsinki, from 19th January to the 26th January, 1925. Cinema posters in this era were normally commissioned by cinemas themselves, in this instance the Lyyra (established 1915). Measures approximately 15 x 21.5 inches. In bold titles at the lower half of the poster it reads (in Finnish and Swedish), "Leatherstocking is one of those rare serial films that have been shown to full houses for 2 weeks in a row in different theatres in Helsinki". The film was first screened in Finland in 1953 with no further theatrical releases. This poster is not a re-issue or a modern reproduction and nor is it Video/DVD-related. The "small" standard vintage Finnish film poster is the most common and collected version and approximates in size to the German or Hungarian A2. Sizes do vary very slightly depending on the printers involved and the era. Stylistically, vintage Finnish movie posters rarely reproduce the same art-work from the original studios' publicity material. Older films were usually re-named in Finnish (and Swedish below) but nearly always referenced the original title of the movie somewhere in the presentation. The original artwork by Martin Sharp - one of his most iconic covers. The print dates from 2010/11 and is one of a small number commissioned by Oz Magazine co-founder and Editor, Richard Neville, intended for general sale out of his shop in Sydney. It is likely that very few were actually produced or sold however, as the "shop" was a short-lived enterprise. There are neither dates nor printed publisher info on the print. On thick paperstock, portrait format, the sheet measures 21.5 inches by 28 inches approx. The print is numbered in pencil lower left and signed in pencil by Martin Sharp lower right.
