Description:
From the Bart Auerbach Collection. Fine, chatty letters to a good friend, in very good to fine condition. A total of 6 pages, 4to, half are single-spaced, at least 2600 words, with three envelopes. 20 September 1962: "... I guessed you were in Hollywood... because I've seen you in TV plays coming out of there... I had a letter a couple of years ago... from Hedy Lamarr. It was business, and I disappointed her in the end... she thought she had to let me know or to remind me that there are as many nice and reasonable people in Hollywood as anywhere else... I'm very glad if my stories meant something to you... I hope to hell I see you one of these months, Gerry..." 20 May 1964: Salinger devotes about half of the first page (of two single-spaced) to an amusing account of a "really nutty, unblanaced" so-called Hollywood producer showing up to talk about a movie sale. He then praises her TV acting career and warns her about her upcoming marriage to Budd Schulberg (she became his third wife that July): "...…

GILES, 2021. New in shrinkwrap. 10.25 x 8.5 inches. 156 pages. Fully illustrated. Original grey cloth; pictorial dust jacket. First edition. "The Old Master paintings and European sculpture and decorative arts at the renowned Frick Collection might be thought to be all but inextricable from the domestic setting of the Gilded Age mansion in which they reside. For a couple of years, however, while the Frick is undergoing renovation, highlights from the collection have been relocated to a radically different, unlikely home: Marcel Breuer's Brutalist building five blocks away, which the architect designed for the Whitney Museum of American Art. The result is a stunning reconstruction and re-presentation of a beloved collection, with the museum's treasures comfortably and elegantly adapting to their temporary modernist abode. This handsome volume documents this altogether singular moment in the Frick's history with stunning photographs by Joseph Coscia Jr. and a reflective foreword by Roxane Gay" (the…

London: Robert Jennings, 1824. First edition. Hinges tender, and some light wear to bindings, some intermittent spotting, but generally a very handsome and well-preserved set. Three volumes, 4to (373 x 268 mm). 80 engraved plates, of which 70 are hand-colored, with historiated hand-colored initials for each chapter throughout. Contemporary grey calf, blind-tooled borders, spines with gilt bands and red leather lettering-pieces, all edges gilt. Provenance: Jasper Hall (bookplate); Henry J. B. Clements (bookplate, sold Sotheby's 1 November 1966, lot 975). One of the first works to view the subject of ancient arms and armor from an historical perspective. "This most superb archeological work is animated with numerous novelties, curious and historical disquisitions, and brilliant and recondite learning...
