The first letter: 1 page, 6.75 x 5.25 inches, Chicago, May 14, 1903, in full: "If you should have time to give me a short sitting next Wednesday I believe it would come in opportunely at this time and save your father the trip; then we could resume with him the following week. If you should be too busy however, I shall be glad to have him come." Fine condition. The second letter: 1 page, 6.75 x 5.25 inches, 1038 Fine Arts Building, Chicago, March 20, 1908, in full: "I think there must be a mistake regarding price of the reproduction of the bust since they cost me more than the sum named. My usual charge is $300.00 which gives me a little profit. I am willing however to split the difference in this case and call it $250.00." Signed at the conclusion by Taft and countersigned by Secretary of State Philander Knox. Oversized embossed Presidential seal is affixed to bottom. Usual folds otherwise in very good condition.<br/><br/> American Statesman, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and twenty-seventh President of the United States.<br/><br/>

Washington, D.C., 1922. unbound. 1 page, 10.25 x 8 inches, Washington, D.C. January 11, 1922. In this warm note signed "Wm. H. Taft," the former President agrees to see the son of a former colleague when he comes to Washington, in part: "...I remember your father very well as one of the members of that brilliant Bar of Louisville as I knew it, when I was on the Circuit Court of Appeals..." Usual folds and one diagonal crease; small darkened area in the lower left corner. Very good(-) condition.<br/><br/>

In this letter, Taft thanks his correspondent for her congratulations on his appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court, in part: "...I remember your hospitable reception of me when I was your guest in Baltimore, and I hope I may have the pleasure of seeing you and Mr. Stein in the near future. We are going to be nearer neighbors now..." Horizontal and vertical folds; very good condition.<br/><br/>

Washington, D.C., 1911. framed. 1 page on White House letterhead, 7 x 6.5 inches, Washington, D.C., March 25, 1911. In this letter, Taft expresses thanks for a gift, in full: "My dear Mr. Shepard: I have your letter of March 22nd, and thank you in behalf of Mrs. Taft and myself for the oranges which you were thoughtful enough to have sent us. We shall much enjoy them. With warm regards to Mrs. Shepard, believe me, Sincerely yours..." One horizontal fold; signature slightly faded. Beautifully double-matted in gold and gray beside a bust-portrait photo of Taft. Set in gold wooden frame measuring 13.25 x 18.75 inches. Very good condition.<br/> <br/>

Taft - New Haven- Dec. 10th, 1916", beautifully floated in a White diamond-cut matte with two openings, accompanied by a pristine quality original Baker Art Gallery silver gelatin photograph of the President with blind-embossed back stamp & coat-of-arms, Columbus, Ohio, c. 1915, and placed into a black frame with a heightened grain finish, to 11.75" x 18". Fine condition. *The Baker Art Gallery was a photography studio that was founded in 1862 and operated uninterrupted until 1955. They had a reputation for producing high-quality portraits including those fellow Ohioans Rutherford B. Hayes, William McKinley and Annie Oakley.<br/> <br/> Twenty-seventh President of the United States, serving from 1909 - 1913 and later, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.<br/> <br/>

Taft" as professor of law at Yale, regarding a fundraising campaign for the university and mentioning the recent funeral of William H. Moody, associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. In part: "...Of course this legacy of $1,000,000 by Oliver Payne is great, but it may take away some of the enthusiasm for giving which I hope to arouse through the loss that Yale has to sustain from the war...Men can not control the time when they will die, and Moody's life was such a tragedy that I felt he was entitled to the poor tribute of my attendance, when the family requested it..." Usual folds plus a faint diagonal crease; small tears in the top margin; small stain on page 2. Very good(-) condition.<br/><br/>
