New York: Unpublished, 1931. Original gelatin silver print: 8 1/16 inches by 6 1/8 inches. Date stamped Jan. 1931 and Signed in black ink on the lower right corner of the verso: "Doris Ulmann, 1000 Park Avenue, New York City"--all in Ulmann's distinctive handwriting. Written at the top of the verso in a hand that does not appear to be that of either Ulmann or Leighton is this description: "Miss Clare Leighton, English woodcut artist who was awarded first prize in the International Engraving Exhibition held recently at the Art Institute in Chicago. 1700 prints were submitted from all over the world." The wording suggests that Leighton's assistant / traveling companion may have used the photo to promote her lecture tour.
