Text by the poet Mark Van Doren, with full color illustrations throughout by Lorraine Fox.

Also inscribed on the blurb page at front by "Stephen & Marja Vance," whose relation to the author we have not been able to ascertain. Perfect-bound in printed wraps, 6 7/8 x 4 1/8 in.; xi, 436pp. Creasing to top corner of rear cover. Light edge wear, with rubbing along joints. One creased lear. Else very good, with strong, uncreased spine.

Jacket clipped at bottom front corner, where it would appear there had been a "book club edition" statement; "$4.95" repricing stamp at the top corner. Subtitled: "The twenty-five most memorable true stories written since the time of Grantland Rice." Uncommon sports title.

Though unstated, this copy from the library of New York School poet, librettist, and publisher Kenward Elmslie (1929-2022).
