NY: Macmillan, 1916. First edition.. Wine cloth lettered in gilt. Pictorial bookplate and old catalogue entry pasted to inner front cover. A very good copy. Most of the dust jacket, in pieces, is laid into the back of the book. Signed by Lindsay on the front end paper, where he has also executed a drawing of a flower.

Blue cloth, spine and front cover designed and lettered in white. 319pp. Covers rubbed, labels removed from inner front cover, a very good copy generally. A scarce thriller by John George Haslette Vahey, who wrote under the pseudonyms Vernon Loder, Anthony Lang, Henrietta Clandon, and others. This is the American edition, utilizing British sheets of the 1912 Sampson, Low edition. Spies, crime, robbery, detection and intrigue. An uncommon title. Listed in Hubin.

anticat16. Paris: Chez Michaud Freres, 1810. 4th edition. 56pp. 8vo. Disbound. Some old stains and chipping to first leaf, moderate foxing, very good. Partly unopened; one leaf (pg. 35/36) has been torn partly across due to careless opening. The first edition appeared in 1806. On the profanation of the tombs at St. Denis during Robespierre's Reign of Terror, during which over 170 bodies were exhumed and mutilated, mainly those of kings, queens, and princes.

Paris: Diderot, 1772. Engraved map on laid paper, sheet size is 44.5cm x 25cm. Not coloured. Fresh, clean copy with original folds. At upper right: "Suppl. Car. 10". A map based on Capt. Cluny's mythical voyage, created for Diderot's great Encyclopedie (1772). The map depicts North America, the Arctic, and a supposed NW Passage. At least two varieties of this map exist (no known priority), of which this is the one with "les 7 Isles" above the map's border at the upper right.

[Santa Barbara: Noel Young, 1971]. First edition. . Brown stapled wrappers, front cover designed and lettered in black. A 12-page booklet of poetry. Fine condition.

NY: Street & Smith, [c.1900].. 284pp. Later wrappers of Pratt's Circulating Library, Denver. Chipped at edges, paper very browned, very good. Six pages of ads for Street & Smith's "Magnet Library" at the front. The American edition was first published in New York by Bonner, as No. 95 in their series "The Ledger Library" (also cited elsewhere as being Volume 95 in their "Choice Series"). This Street & Smith edition cites the Bonner edition on the verso of the title, saying: "From 'Novellen-Schatz, ' Vol. 32. Published by S. Zickel, 129 Duane St., New York". A complex murder mystery, about an American accused of murder in Germany, much to do with forged bank documents and a valuable antique gold watch. Very scarce.

cat40a. London: Hutchinson, [1926]. '6th Thousand'. Blue cloth, spine and front cover lettered in black. Cloth worn along fore-edges, some shelf wear to edges and tips, paper yellowed, a very good copy otherwise. Short stories, some are criminous. Listed in Hubin.

London: Cape, (1981). First edition.. Orange boards, spine lettered in gilt. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket, a few clippings laid in, contemporary reviews. Her third novel.

Chicago & NY: Rand, McNally, 1890. First American edition.. Original pictorial wrappers, spine lettered in black; front cover designed in black, lettered in red. 340pp. + 6 leaves of ads at rear. LACKING the back cover, spine ends chipped away, wear to edges, very good otherwise. Issued as No. 99 in The Rialto Series. Also issued in cloth. Nice image of a snake coiled about a tree on the front wrapper.

Paris: Combette, 1856. [issued 1859?]. . 4to. Quarter-calf & red patterned boards, the front cover designed and lettered in gilt, the spine lettered in gilt on a black panel. Marbled end papers. Decorative engraved double-page title, statistics table, and 92 numbered double-page maps. At the rear are an additional 6 double-page maps of the continents, and two large folding maps of France and the two-hemisphere Mappemonde. Bound at the rear is a final map, a single-page Carte Speciale, of the war in Italy, dated 1859. Almost all maps have contemporary colouring in outline. Some chipping at lower spine, a bit of wear along upper hinge, inner front hinge cracking, an attractive very good copy in general. A complete copy, 101 Maps in all, plus the decorative title.

Paris: Lemercier, c.1850.. Engraved map, 16.5 x 12.5 inches (matted: 22.5 x 18 inches). Map coloured in outline. Decorative panels around edges containing allegorical scenes, and figures representing the seasons. From the Atlas Illustre, Plate No. 95. Fine condition. A very decorative map which was engraved by Raimond Bonheur, father of the famous French artist Rosa Bonheur

NY: For David Bliss, 1806. First American edition.. 12mo. Frontispiece portrait of Moreau. Tree calf, red leather spine label lettered in gilt. Upper hinge cracked, but the cover is still holding by a thread. Library stamp on title of Dartmouth College, and their duplicate/sold stamp on the front end paper; also other library markings including a decorative label on the front end paper, of United Fraternity's Library. A clean and very good copy otherwise.

London: Hodder and Stoughton, [nd]. Presumably the first edition.. Red cloth lettered in black. Tear in cloth along upper front cover, front end paper removed, a bit soiled, a good copy. Historical novel set in Quebec in the 18th century.

Halsingbord: Trvckeriaktiebolaget Demokraten, 1945.. Porous beige wrappers ruled in blue, printed in black. Small stain at upper spine, a few pencil marks in text, otherwise fine. This is copy #1 of 250 numbered copies. Chapter VII is titled: Friendly Arctic.

Chicago: AMA, 1918.. Original printed wrappers, stapled. 11pp. Fine condition, a short crease in the rear wrapper. An offprint, "Reprinted from The Journal of the American Medical Association Nov. 23, 1918, Vol. 71, pp. 1715-1718. An uncommon pamphlet.

Seattle: University of Washington Book Store, 1928. . Stiff card covers pasted into red wrappers. A nice clean copy. Issued as Number Twenty-One of the University of Washington Chapbooks. Signed by Patterson on the front end paper.

Dallas: Southwest Press, (1930). First edition. Gray patterned pictorial boards, designed and lettered in black. Green end papers. Small repair to upper spine, splitting along the front hinge, end papers are faded; a clean very good copy generally. Many illustrations imitating tintypes, illustrating Texas characters. A scarce book.

Paris: Bureau de la Bibliotheque Catholique, 1826.. 4 Volumes [of 5]. 12mo. Full sprinkled calf, spines gilt. Marbled end papers & edges. Several end papers are loose, some splitting along the upper hinge of Volume II, a nice clean and sound set. Spine labels are lacking; only Volume II has the title label, lettered in gilt on a red panel. Letters of some German and Polish Jews to M. De Voltaire. Published in 5 volumes; this is only volumes 1 through 4, lacking volume 5.

Also a small sailing ship and two compass roses (North is indicated to the right of the map). Imprint in lower cartouche: 't Amsterdam, By, Iohannis Van Keulen, Boek en Zee-Kaart verkooper, aan de Niewe-brugh. Small number "13" printed in lower right corner. Plate size is 60cm x 51cm, on a sheet measuring 75cm x 61cm. Verso blank. Old stain to left side extending slightly into plate, yellow remains of old tape repairs to fold on verso, splitting along fold, tears to margins, otherwise generally very good. An attractive map with handsomely coloured cartouches. From Van Keulen's "De Nieuwe Groote Ligtende Zee-Fakkel...." [1728 - many editions]. The map is by Claes Jansz Vooght; cartouche art may be by Jan Luyken, who illustrated Van Keulen's Atlas. A map of the East coast of Brazil. Also a small sailing ship and two compass roses. Imprint in cartouche: "t' Amsterdam by Johannes van Ceulen, Boekverkooper Aand Nieuwenbrugh Met Privilegie Voor 15 Iaar" and in French: "d'Amsterdam Chez Iean Van Ceulen Vendeur des Cartes Marines Vis a' Vis du Pont Neuf". Small number "22&1/2" printed in lower right corner. Plate size is 60cm x 49cm, on a sheet measuring 62cm x 54cm. Verso blank. An attractive map with a handsomely coloured cartouche. From Van Keulen's "De Nieuwe Groote Ligtende Zee-Fakkel...." [1728 - many editions]. The cartouche attributes the map to Claes Jansz Vooght; the art in the cartouche may be by Jan Luyken, as he illustrated Van Keulen's Atlas. A map of the coast of France, Brittany and the coast near the mouth of the Loire River.
