Original silver-stamped burgundy cloth (spine ends rubbed). Very good.

Goshen, (NY): Printed by H. H. Van Dyck, 1832. First separate edition, "Independent Republican Extra" at head of title page. 8vo. 11 pp. [printed double-column]. Not recorded in American Imprints. OCLC locates one copy (New York Historical Society, also with text trimmed from some leaves). Disbound pamphlet. Final two leaves trimmed closely, taking one or two letters from the last word in each line.

Very good untrimmed copy. Original decorated green cloth, gilt spine title, floral endpapers. (#7876).

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1882. First edition. 8vo.; x, (2), 502 pp., 8 folding maps, (6 pp. of ads). Frontis. portrait. Gilt stamped dark blue pebbled cloth. Spine ends rubbed; rear hinge cracked; upper outer corners of two leaves chipped, not affecting text. Small ownership stamp on front and rear pastedowns, and faintly on versos of each map. A good copy. A biography of Thomas (1816-1870) who served in both the Mexican War and the Civil War. He earned the nickname "Rock of Chickamauga" as a result of his skill in protecting the Union Army at the battle of Chickamauga in 1863.

Jackson, MI: Thomas Palmer, 1847. 12mo.; 304pp. Recent calf, leather spine label; title page somewhat soiled, a little damage to edges of the first few leaves (without text loss), a solid copy in an attractive new binding. First edition. HOWES V45: "A Whig editor's bitter criticism of the McNutt regime, its financial policy, and repudiation of the state's bond obligations."

London: Hitch and Hawes [and others], 1759. 12mo. Two volumes: 12, 369, (1); 340, (4) pp. Engraved frontispiece portrait in volume one. Contemporary calf ( rubbed, joints cracked), leather labels and gilt rules between raised bands on spines; vertical creases to spines, but a good solid copy. Vanbrugh's plays were first published separately, 1697-1728. Volume one contains The Relapse; Or, Virtue in Dangr, The Provok'd Wife; With a New Scene, Aesop, in Two Parts, and The False Friend. Volume two contains The Confederacy, The Mistake, The Country House, A Journey to London, and The Provok'd Husband NCBEL II, p. 414.

A record of the battle of Stone's River (also known as Murfreesboro, in the South), in Middle Tennessee at the end of 1862.

First edition. 8vo. 20 pp. Swain (1801-1868), a native of Buncombe County, served as Governor of North Carolina, 1832-1835 and as president of the university, 1835 until shortly before his death; Vance (1830-1894), also a. native of Buncombe County, served as Governor of North Carolina, 1862-1865 and 1877-1879 and as U. S. Senator, 1879-1894. Original printed purple wrappers (faded around the edges, vertical crease, old light tideline in lower margin), stitched. Still a very good copy.

[Raleigh, NC: np, 1864. Single sheet, printed both sides, 20 3/4 x 14 3/4 inches. "I have come among you to beg you in the name of reason, of humanity, to obey the law, to recognize order and authority, to do nothing except in the manner prescribed by the Constitution, to bear the Constitution, to bear the ills you have rather than fly to evils you know not of ... I have no more doubt now about the establishment of the independence of the Southern Confederacy than I have of my own existence, provided we remain true to the cause we have solemnly taken to support ... [North Carolina] will dare endure to the bitter end. The men who suffer are the men who win." "History of the founding of the extinct villages of Germanna and Germantown, 1714-1721, with biographical sketches of the founders." The villages were located on the Rapidan River in present-day Culpeper County. Very good. Cloth-backed illustrated boards. (4550).

Vol.1: Folding table, [2], [14] subscribers list, [4], iv, [17]-87, 98-364; [8], 5-368 pp.; Vol. 2: [8], 5-368 pp. Full period calf with gilt rules on spine and red label stamped in gilt, given that the text on the title page and in other copies we have examined are done in the same style, it appears to be a publishers binding.
