Description:
George Allen & Unwin. First edition published by George Allen and Unwin in 1934. This is a very good or better copy. The bright mustard jacket has minor wear to the top and bottom of the toned spine. There are two small tears to the top edge. There is general minor wear to the edges and corners. On the reverse of the jacket is a piece of tape that has repaired one of the tears. It has been price clipped. The book has the odd mark to the boards but overall is very clean with no marks or foxing to the pages. Overall a very good or better copy. Waley's translation of the Tao Te Ching, one of chinas most famous books dating to the end of the third century B.C. It is based on Waley's close study of early Chinese literature. He provides an introduction and commentary on each part. A very rare book to find in first print and with the jacket. A key Arthur Waley title.  . Very Good. Hodder & Stoughton. First UK edition published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1920. This is a very good copy with the illusive dust wrapper. The wrapper has small slithers of loss to the top and bottom of the spine and to the corners. There are 2 small tears to the front panel. The spine has browned. The price on the spine is showing as 6'- net. The book in red boards has sunning to the spine ends and the corners are lightly rubbed. The first couple of pages have a patch of browning. There are no foxing marks though to the pages or text blocks and no previous owners ink. Overall a very good copy. The unusual and rarely found dust wrapper shows a map of Russia covered in darkness. H.G. There is a small amount of loss at the top of the spine. There is also a tiny tear to the top left hand corner of the front panel.
