Book has no list of illustrations, probably because it would have pointed up errors. Two fold maps: Principal Kimberlite Occurrences, and Diamond Fields of Griqualand West. xxxv pp plus i page Errata. The compilation by the printer is very dodgy not only in this copy but all other copies I have seen, eg nominally 82 figures but Fig 78 is on the verso of Fig 82. As in other copies, Plate II & XXI are missing, but I have inserted a photocopy of Plate II and what must be XXI appears at p139 not only in this copy but in other copies as well. So in total XXXVI full page plates. 347pp includes 8 Tables, 4 Appendixes. PLUS EXTRA INDEX by Gerry Levin PLUS Appendix V, both photocopied from the Second Edition of 1971 taking it to 355pp incl appendix V. Illustrated with 82 figures, including b&w photos; many tables in text; VIII Tables and V Appendices at end. Covered in plastic.

Dj is somewhat scuffed on rear hinge at head; replaced matching chips 22x20, 40x6, 22x15mm and some smalller ones on the corners. Book has signature of a L J Contat, who might have been the co-discoverer of the Sodwana Emerald mine in Rhodesia. Book apparently unread; has two folding maps "Principal Kimberlite Occurrences" ,and " Diamond Fields of Griqualand West". xxxv pp includes new Biography and Bibliography by Gerry Levin; 355pp incl index versus xxv plus 347pp of the First Edition. This was called by the Publishers a "Second Impression" but should more accurately have been called a "Second enlarged Edition". Illustrated with 81 figures (including 36 b&w photos - many full page plates) ; many tables in text; VIII Tables and V Appendices at end. Second Edition. Hard Cover Decorated Boards.

Book has some underlining in pencil and occasional colouring in of the figures, which is actually an aid to understanding. Seems to be rare.

Occasional light foxing. 7 colour litho illustrations present. Map in fine condition. Book rebound into original cover with new endpapers; the spine has been lightly re-coloured. The author was a medical officer to the British forces in India. The present charming work recounts a visit made to Kashmir in the summer of 1875. Ref Yakushi W11a.
