The book is in about very good condition: generally clean and tight; water stain limited to area at bottom of front cover; small ink stain near fore-edge of front free endpaper.  The dust jacket has survived, but with extensive edgewear and relatively shallow chipping along the top edge; water staining at bottom of front panel; expected fading of green background.  It looks much better now that it is in a Brodart polyester cover.. The image shows a view of the interior of the Palace Hotel in San Francisco: a courtyard on the ground level and 7 stories of hallways with columns and handrails; some rocking chairs can be seen around the perimeter of the courtyard. The mount is orange, with a pink verso that includes the stamp for G. Beach, the San Francisco stationer who originally sold the stereoview. Provenance: from the collection of Robert N. Dennis, who was one of the most important stereoview collectors in the U. S. The New York Public Library's "Robert N. Dennis Collection" includes more than 70,000 stereoviews from his collection, many of which can be viewed on the library's website. The Watlkins stereoview is in an envelope that Dennis used to circulate the view for critiques by fellow amateur stereo photographers, who like Dennis were members of The Stereoscopic Society. Published in Camera Notes, volume 2, number 4 (April 1899).  Printed in brown ink as a photogravure by the Photochrome Engraving Company, a company that Alfred Stieglitz had founded.  Image size is  7 1/4 inches by 5 inches.  Printed only for members of the Camera Club of New York, the edition size was no more than 300, and far fewer than that have survived. Hans Watzek (1848-1903) was a Viennese photographer who was noted for his pictorialist portraits and landscapes.  In 1896 he was admitted to membership in the prestigious British society of pictorialist photographers, the Linking Ring.  Upon his death Edward Steichen eulogized him in an issue of Camera Work: "At a time when photography is but commencing to develop seriously, his death becomes keenly felt.
