Included are copies of the Yale College catalogues listing officers and students for each of the four years that Rexford attended; catalogues for each of the campus literary societies - the Linonian Society, Brothers in Unity, the Calliopean Society, and Psi Upsilon - listing the names of members, past and present; as well as the published catalogues of three of the societies' libraries. An occasional light fox mark, a few instances of pencil marginalia, else quite clean internally. Very good. In a cloth chemise and half morocco and cloth slipcase, spine gilt. Actually printed in Cambridge, Ma., and not recorded in Shaw and Shoemaker. This work, first published in 1788, is largely Chief Justice Robert Yates' account of the 1787 Constitutional Convention. The autobiographical story of a Confederate soldier from an area described as having "Carolina's tallest peaks" on its southeastern horizon. Most names in the story appear to be fictional. Includes his capture at Kennesaw Mountain in June 1864; as a prisoner of war at Camp Douglas, Illinois; his journey home; and how he came to join an infantry company. Yeager (1842-1940) served with the 29th Tennessee Infantry (Confederate) until his capture. After the war he was a lawyer in Tennessee, then a newspaperman and farmer in Johnson County, Texas. Rare. Together with the laws and information pertaining to free grants and home steads; to mining and to the preservation of forests from destruction by fire."

Boston, 1862. 267pp. Original cloth. Front joint splitting, some chipping at spine extremities, front board warped and dampstained affecting top margin of contents throughout, some tanning. A sound copy. Inscribed: "To the Attorney General in the Qeen [sic] v. William Palmer 1856 - from G.A. Somerby, Boston, Mass. U.S." The DNB devotes a long article to the character and celebrated case of William Palmer, the notorious "Rugeley poisoner." Palmer was tried at the Old Bailey on May 14, 1856. The attorney-general in the case was Sir Alexander Cockburn, apparently the recipient of the present volume. The case of William Palmer is cited in the Preface, since it was believed that Palmer used strychnine in murdering at least one of his victims, but the chemists were unable to detect any trace of that poison in the body of the deceased. Modern half calf and marbled boards, leather label. Minor foxing, folding map in first volume neatly repaired on fold. Very good. The second printing, issued the year after the first. This is the first scholarly work on Texas after annexation. The author, a lawyer from Tennessee, came to Texas in 1845, befriended Sam Houston, and served in the Mexican-American War. "In spite of its detractors, Yoakum's history remains a necessary source. Modern historians rally to its support, with reservations. Gambrell said Yoakum managed to achieve 'a degree of objectivity unusual for the amateur historian, and literary style not often equalled by the professional'" - Jenkins. HOWES Y10, "aa." RADER 3773. The final pages contain the "Canons for the government of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, agreed on and ratified in the General Convention of said church, held in the city of Philadelphia, from the 29th day of September to the 16th day of October, 1789." Revised by-laws for the Medical Society of the County of New York, originally bound with STATUTES REGULATING THE PRACTICE OF PHYSIC AND SURGERY IN THE STATE OF NEW-YORK. The New York County Medical Society, which exists to this day, was founded in 1806 to represent Manhattan-based physicians. Scarce, not in Austin.

Small old ink library stamp on verso of titlepage, some toning and minor foxing, marginal dampstaining to some leaves. With a remarkable contemporary poem, "Epitaph on Thomas Paine," apparently an original composition, penned on two of the terminal blanks. Very good. One of the earliest compilations of the laws of colonial New York, and the first digest of the colonial statutes in force at that time. The work was prepared by William Smith (author of the HISTORY OF NEW YORK) and William Livingston, both prominent New York attorneys. The work is also notable for the subscribers list, which includes prominent names such as Benjamin Franklin, Charles Pinckney, and James De Lancey, among others. Lacks the two plates. A rare traveller's guide, giving information on roads and canals in upstate New York, with details on where to stay in each town, railroads, tolls, etc., covering routes as far as Buffalo, and including Syracuse, Palmyra, Rochester and Niagara, as well as Canada and the Midwest. Publication put out by the New York State Anti-Monopoly League, giving a report on the votes of the New York State Legislature. The cover is edged in black mourning. On the relevant measures taken up in the legislature, the pamphlet lists the "ayes," the "noes," and those who were "absent or dodging." There is also a detailed listing of specific instances where certain members "voted against the public interest." Appoints the commissioners to administer the building of a canal connecting the Hudson River and Lake Erie with Lake Champlain, outlines their responsibilities, and prints "An Act, respecting Navigable Communications between the Great Western and Northern Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean." Clayville, N.Y.: E.J. Clemens, [ca. 1882].. Seventy wooden puzzle pieces, completed size 12 x 16 inches. Evenly toned, scattered stains, light edge wear to most pieces. Printed image beginning to peel at the edges of some pieces, more severe on verso of pieces. Good plus, in a later fitted wooden case with latch (lacking the original box). A detailed dissected sectional map of New York State, with each county forming its own puzzle piece. The map is one prepared by G.W. & C.B. Colton based on previous maps published by their predecessor, Joseph H. Colton. It depicts the State of New York delineated by county, with towns, cities, railroads, canals, and some topographical details marked, as well as insets of New York City and Niagara Falls. [Delhi, N.Y., June 10, 1859].. Broadside, 11 x 13 inches. Three horizontal and one vertical fold line. Date written in a contemporary hand at end. Very good. The present broadside was printed to inform property owners in the towns of Masonville, Tompkins, Sidney, and Walton in Delaware County, New York, that their property may be affected by the transfer of lands pursuant to the will of Martha Bradstreet. Located just south of Utica, the lands within Delaware County once belonging to the noted French and Indian War hero, John Bradstreet, and are here noted as the legal property of one of his descendants, the disputatious and litigious Martha Bradstreet. The transition of ownership from Bradstreet to the present heir is explained. Signed in print by the executor, Thomas Cunningham.
