Folio. vi,(3),vi-xx,38pp. Eleven pates plus frontispiece: full page copper engravings by Bunbury. Wanting B1 of the prelims, and apparently issued that way, As the ESTC notes, "Possibly deliberately mis-signed in order to support the 'missing' portion of the author's preface - see editor's note." Bound to style in half calf, red leather lettering label, gilt; marbled paper boards. Two signatures have been remargined for strength and without loss; the title page has been mounted and lacks upper and inner margins but also without loss, plates and text occasionally foxed but a very good copy, completely uncut and with wide margins, in a fine binding. Reprinted in 1788, 1791, 1792 and 1796. A sequel, "Annals of Horsemanship", was issued in 1791. "A lively and entertaining jeu d'esprit of the pencil and the pen...." Lowndes, p. 860.

Fine copies; the the binding is worn at the upper hinge else is in very good condition., The first Act banned public practice of Catholicism, Catholic priests were killed when captured; Catholic-owned land was confiscated and given to Scottish and English settlers, and Catholic landowners were relocated to Connacht. (Hence the expression attributed to Cromwell: To Connacht or to Hell.) The second Act set forth procedures for soldiers and officers who served in Ireland to recover a "great Arrears of pay". The third Act assessed Ireland the sum of £20,000 for support of the Spanish War, to be levied and paid "in such manner and form as by the Lord Deputy and Council, or any three or more of them shall be Ordered and Directed." This copy inscribed on the reverse of the dustwrapper with a lovely full color prancing pig bearing a purple tulip and signed 'Wolo '41". Beneath the illustration, in Wolo's calligraphic hand, is the inscription: "To Lambie Taylor from Amanda and Sir Archibald and Wolo." Wolo (Baron Wolff von Falkenstein) was a refugee form Nazi Germany who took up residence in San Francisco where he worked for the Chronicle and developed his superb artistic ability.
