An early edition of a frequently reprinted address. Christian assures the reader that his address "will be in no spirit of carping criticism, with no desire to do injustice to [Lincoln], and will be as free from sectional prejudice and passion as one who has suffered as I have, by the conduct of Mr. Lincoln and his followers, can make it" (p. 1). It is nevertheless, a searing partisan assessment of who Christian calls a "Godless tyrant." Haynes 3411.

Green cloth with title in gold on the spine; top edge gilt; fore- and bottom-edge left deckled; rubbing to the extremities including light fraying at the spine ends and corners; hinges a little loose; contents clean but for some occasional offsetting from some leaves that were laid in (only a few instances). An account of an around the world tour in 1875-1876 compiled from Francis's letters. Illustrated by 24 printed reproductions from photographs with a nearly half of them relating to South Asia. Smith F60.

Neat and contemporary manuscript title on the front free endpaper; text is heavily foxed throughout. An interesting collection of early Virginia laws including laws relating to enslaved persons; various individuals allowed to build roads and bridges, some with tolls; matters relating to soldiers; and more.

Ulissipone [Lisbon]: apud Michaelem Deslandes Serenissimi Regis typographum, 1718. Vellum Binding. Good binding. Folio. [12], 417, [7] pp. Second edition. Contemporary limp vellum with slightly yapp edges and remnants of ties; author's name in old-fashioned calligraphic fashion on the spine; several early owner names on the flyleaf, each successively crossed out long ago. Binding moderately toned and rippled as expected, but remains a stately binding; a bit of toning to the contents and scattered tidelines, this this remains a clean copy. Originally issued in 1688, this is the second edition. In depth discussion of capacity and disability, inheritance and succession, and incompatibility of offices in Spanish and canon law in addition to the intersection of all of those matters as they overlap in practice. Important civil and canon law work.

Handsomely rebound in modern cloth with stamped leather spine label; textblock untrimmed. Stamps on a half dozen pages from a defunct library; title pages is chipped with some loss at the fore-edge margin, not affecting text; pages are somewhat toned/foxed. A remarkable captivity narrative from the French Revolution in which O'Neill recounts his abusive treatment as a prisoner of war as well as his escape. The narrative concludes with a rousing call to arms for all men to stand against their foe. Uncommon.

Light soiling to the covers; early pencil catalog number on the front cover; presentation stamp deep in the inner margin of the first page. Interesting piece of campaign literature in opposition to James Ross for governor and discussing at length his role in the presidential election debacle of 1800 and especially his bill that attempted to take from Congress the role it constitutionally was required to play. 1805. Original Wrappers. Very Good binding. 12mo. 19, [1 (blank)] pp. First edition. As issued, stitched in plain wrapper; a few leaves unopened. Light wear to the covers including some silverfishing to the top inner margin of the rear wrapper and diminishing through the next several leaves; light soiling, but largely a remarkably copy. Deaccessioned as a library duplicate, the only indication being a mid-20th century gift stamp deep in the inner margin of p. 3; contents clean. An address criticizing incumbent Pennsylvania governor Thomas McKean and recommending Simon Snyder as governor in the 1805 election. While Snyder lost to McKean in a contentious 1805 contest, he would ultimately win in 1808 and serve three terms. Light shelfwear to the binding including what appears to be a very little paint on the bottom edge of the front board; offsetting to the endpapers, otherwise, it is largely clean. Keith's addresses have quite a range, but a couple relate to the American Civil War, including a sketch of General Eppa Hunton. Haynes 9923.

A nice copy but for the library markings which are minimal--a top edge stamp and notation on the rear free endpaper, otherwise clean; the dust jacket is also quite fresh and retains the price on the front flap. Winner of the 2021 Nobel Prize in literature, Gurnah was selected "for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents" (Nobel Prize website). First editions of Gurnah's work are scarce in the wake of his Nobel Prize.

Later binding in full calf in a 19th century simplification of the Harleian style with a large central lozenge stamped in blind within series of blind and gold tooled borders with ornamental corners; quite a handsome binding with morocco title and volume labels on an ornately tooled spine; board edges and turn-ins tooled in gold; all edges marbled; marbled endpapers; handsewn silk headbands and the remnants of silk ribbon markers. Some scuffing to the leather and a small split starting at the bottom of the front joint of Volume I.

Bennington, VT: William Haswell, 1825. Disbound. Good binding. 12mo. 23, [1 (blank)] pp. Removed from binding; light foxing throughout; contemporary ink pagination indicating its placement in the volume from which it was removed. Early religious tract. Sabin and McCorison tentatively posit printing dates of 1813 and 1812 respectively, while Gilman puts it at 1825. William's father, Anthony Haswell was a Boston, then Worcester printer during the Revolution and moved his family to Bennington in 1781 becoming the second printer in Vermont.
