A modestly interesting gathering of Hertzog ephemera, including prospectuses, event and exhibition catalogues, etc. The most substantial item is the prospectus/sample gathering of Hallenbeck's JOURNEY OF FRAY MACOS DE NIZA, which is accompanied by exhibition catalogues from UTEP and El Paso Public Library, a worn but inscribed copy of the dust jacket for BELLS OVER TEXAS, a copy of the El Paso Public Library Tom Lea exhibition catalogue signed by Hertzog, etc. With one duplicate not counted in the above number, and one variant included therein.

A representative sampling of book related and non book related printing by Carol Blinn at her Warwick Press. Included are seven prospectuses for books either published or printed by the press, a number of promotional items, and a variety of greeting and holiday cards, the majority of them signed or inscribed by the printer.

Some creasing, ink spill affecting a few leaves at conclusion of one item, otherwise very good. A small group of items attending the genesis of the award-winning anthology show, THE RICHARD BOONE SHOW (1963-64 - 25 episodes). The present material records the early involvement of playwright Clifford Odets, who is denoted "Editor in Chief" of the series. Unfortunately, Odets died of pneumonia on 14 August 1963, and the later script element of the show was overseen by others. First edition. Inscribed and signed by the author/publisher. One of 200 copies with separate sections printed letter-press on different papers by Leonard Seastone, Ronald Gordon and Leslie Miller. The colophon is signed by each of the printers and by the author, William Targ. An appendix lists the first 24 titles published under the Targ Editions imprint. There is a manuscript correction in the publication price of this title.

Notes on title leaf in green felt-tip, otherwise fine. An unpublished musical play by Nieboer, then associated with the Bay-area Magic Theatre. The annotations on the title-leaf read: "N/p #2 82-83." Niebor's recent productions have been associated with the Stage North Theatre Company.

London: Printed and Sold by J. Peele, at Locke's Head..., 1728.. 72pp. Octavo (signed in 4s). Extracted from nonce pamphlet volume, lower edges partially untrimmed. Some modest foxing early and late, extremely faint tidemark to lower portion of a number of leaves, but otherwise a very good copy. The rare first edition of this response to Bishop Gibson's pastoral letter - one of two attributed to Tindal - in which the noted freethinking Deist takes to task the Bishop's implicit elevation of faith above reason, and defends in general freedom of thought and discourse against subjugation to religious authority. In an interesting side note to Tindal's response to Gibson's assertion "That in some late Writings publick Stews have been openly vindicated...," he makes reference to the celebrated pseudonymously published 1724 pamphlet by Mandeville, A MODEST DEFENCE OF PUBLICK STEWS .... [Amsterdam: Da Costa Editions, October 1982].. Nine panel leporello, bound into. quarto (33 x 25 cm) cloth and boards portfolio with pictorial onlay and ribbon ties. Near fine. First edition. Copy #1 of twenty numbered copies, signed by the artist. Apart from the justification statement, a dark, functionally textless artist's book, featuring ghostly serigraphed images rendered doubly obscure by their appearance in the context of a long cascade of thin rectangular shapes blurred to the extent that they present a repetitive pattern almost like the appearance of laid bricks, all in somber blacks and grays. In an interview, the artist asserted that this work was a product of his mindset after his divorce.

A properly deaccessioned special collections duplicate, inscribed by the author and the artist "For the Yale University Library, Memorabilia Collection William Rose Benet & Marjorie Flack November ll, 1941." With the bookplate of the Betts poetry collection on the rear pastedown (bearing a release stamp) and another bookplate, bearing another withdrawal stamp, on the front pastedown.

[Beverly Hills]: Twentieth-Century-Fox Film Corporation, 19 August 1939.. [1],132 leaves. Quarto. Mimeographed typescript, printed on rectos only. Bradbound in mimeographed studio wrappers. One inch closed tear at lower edge of upper wrapper, filing number stamp on upper wrapper, short tear at spine, otherwise very good or better. A combined continuity and dialogue script for the 1939 film adaptation of William Gillette's play, directed by Alfred Werker, and starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, produced by Darryl F. Zanuck. Although well over one hundred and fifty adaptations of Sherlock Holmes to the screen are known, beginning with SHERLOCK HOLMES BAFFLED (1903), the Rathbone-Bruce portrayals have become almost canonical, beginning with THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES (March 1939), and concluding with the twelfth in sequence, DRESSED TO KILL (1946). The film ran eight reels, for a total of 7345 feet. Original scripts for any of them, even continuity scripts, are uncommon. DE WAAL 5147.

Cloth a bit sunned and hand-soiled, but about very good and sound, without dust jacket. First edition of this extensively illustrated survey of UK architecture associated with Robert Adam (1728-1792). Inscribed and signed by the author on the title-page: "For Nicholas Guppy James Lees-Milne 10.8.50." The rear pastedown is covered with extensive pencil notes, presumably in the hand of the recipient (possibly the Trinidad-born explorer, writer and environmentalist, 1925- 2012).

First edition in book form of this eulogy for the Dublin-born San Francisco art patron. One of 300 copies printed on French handmade paper for Rosalie M. Stern. Mimeographed typescript, printed on rectos only of plain, blue, yellow, and salmon colored stocks. Bolt bound in mimeographed stiff wrapper. Wrapper somewhat creased, edgeworn and smudged, annotations through out in pencil and ink, some occasional minor stains and frays, but a very good and important copy utilized in the production (see below). Denoted a "shooting script," but incorporating revisions spanning two months on colored and dated revises and inserts. This significantly used copy bears the ownership signature(s) and occasionally heavy annotations, music cues and highlighting of Fred Hellerman, music director for the production. Hellerman (1927 - 2016) was, with Pete Seeger, Lee Hays, and Ronnie Gilbert, an original member of the seminal American folk group, the Weavers.
