The cover title continues, "Compliments of Gooderham & Worts, Toronto, est. 1832". Evident FIRST EDITION. A scarce Canadian vest-pocket cocktail guide and promotional booklet for the Toronto distillers Gooderham & Worts, once the largest distillery in the world. Each cocktail recipe receives a full (though tiny) page, interspersed with advertisements for the individual spirits produced by Goodenham. Includes a section of recipes for mixing drinks in large quantities. Interior lightly soiled and pages a bit wavy; floral decorated endpapers stained. [Maine(?), 1930. Original black & white photograph (10.3 x 16 cm.). Silver gelatin photograph depicting a roadside picnic, with two men and two women sitting on the ground or on rocks, surrounded by an impressive amount of camp or picnic cookware, including a camp stove, thermoses, aluminum pots, lids, dishes, cups, etc. Their dress is a bit formal by today's standards. No automobile is visible. Small stain to upper right hand corner, but the image is still clear. Pencil annotation to verso states, "Roadside Picnic, ME, c. 1920s", but we would date this a decade or two later.

Banker regarding his appointment as superintendent at the company's Cedar Grove, Maine location. Some creases, minor discoloration, and small tear to centerfold, else very good.

This book documents approximately twenty interventions by the Austrian art collective AO& between 2009-2010. Consisting of its founding members, Philipp Furtenbach, Phillip Riccabona, and Thomas A. Wisser, AO& explores the intersection of food and place, taking inspiration from sources as diverse as Fluxus and molecular gastronomy. According to their own manifesto, "AO& is a semi-nomadic organization [...] living and working with such diverse themes as sociology, food, health, quotidian culture, 'nature', 'art', urbanism, spatial planning, business ethics, psychogeography, regional development and beyond." Menu for a diplomatic dinner given by Karl Arnold, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, for the Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi. The dinner was given at the Pleasure Palace of Benrath, in Dusseldorf. It has been proposed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. Dishes served at the dinner included: Gtruffelte Ganseleber, Rinderkraftbruhe mit Mark, Sauerlander Bachforelle, Gespicktes Hirschkotelett, Kaffee - Eiscreme, and Gervais Truffel. The wines were almost exclusively wines of the Rhine: 1952 Graacher Himmelreich und Domprobst Feine Auslese, 1952 Trittenheimer Olk, 1949 Niersteiner Hipping Feinste Goldbeeren-Auslese Edelgewachs, and more. But the evening also included a 1949 Pommard, and a Heidsieck Dry Monopole Brut. A very small bump to the fore edge, otherwise fine.

Henniker, N.H.[?], 1906. Tall octavo (42 x 17 cm.), [approx. 150] pages. An account book of an unidentified New Hampshire butcher working in the 1840's. The individual accounts identify customers at the top of each page, with names including John Slade, Joseph S. Newhall, Hammon Hall, William Oliver, Nathaniel Mansfield, G.H. Hardy, and others. Items sold include Lamb, Beef, Veal, Mutton, Shin Beef, Shank Beef, Beefs, Toung (sic), Chickings (sic), Pork, Sausages, Suett, Soup Bones, and on a separate page Calf Skins, Tripes and Tallow. The free front end paper bears the inscription, "James Wallace Henniker, N.H.", though the hand matches the writing of the keeper of a second account (1901-1906). The center of the book bears a section with a Household Inventory and Accounts (8 pages) of Lizzie P. Gove, conducted by Ella Brock Brooks, both of Manchester, N.H., and likely in Brooks' hand. Five hundred twenty-five recipes (each numbered), plus directions for carving. Recipes gathered from restaurants around the nation by a pioneer of modern restaurant reviewing, especially from the point of view of the traveler. The author became so trusted by the public, that he later licensed the use of his name to a variety of companies for food products, including the cake mix for which he is still known. Near fine in printed yellow and green stiff wrapper.

Advertising booklet for Quinnipiac Fish and Phosphate fertilizer, containing predominantly testimonials from growers about the value of using this product. Also contains a seven page list of farmers, organized by town, with the recommendation that you ask them yourself. With a tiny chip to the fore edge of the rust colored wrappers, and a tiny damp stain to the foot of the spine. Otherwise a fine copy.

Frear championed pesticides and other chemicals in all aspects of agriculture, and was early to claim that without pesticides man would be doomed to starvation. Fine in publisher's black cloth.
