Good, solid copy, very clean, with wear at the extremities and fading to the spine. This is a little tale ( Doyle's words) of the Napoleonic soldiers. The age3 was rich in military material, some of it the most human and the most picturesque that existed at the time. The author has taken from the Journal of sergeant Fricasse and the Recollections of de Segur complete with materials from those military men to give a true historical and military atmosphere to an imaginary figure. There are 17 very fine illustrated images throughout the book by W. B. Wollen. This historically important book feels more like non-fiction than fiction. This is a nice collectible for those interested in early 19th century military history. 297 pages plus 12 pages of advertisements.
