July, 1922., 1922.. Good. - Quarto, 14 inches high by 10-3/4 inches wide. Printed self-wraps. What is offered here is the American composer Douglas Moore's original pencil manuscript for his composition "A Sad Song" with lyrics by Stephen Vincent Benet, written in Moore's hand and signed by him. The composition for Voice, Violin, Cello, and Piano is written on a signature consisting of 4 pages of music paper. Titled by the composer at top left, the score is signed by him at top right. Halfway down the second page, Moore has penciled the word "probably" in the margin followed by dots above 3 bars of music. The pages are slightly soiled with creases to the edges and corners. Good.Together with what appears to be an INK COPY of the score for Voice and Piano, with the 3-page score penned in an unknown hand and with a few pencil corrections on 2 sheets of GSNY music paper. Philadelphia: Godey's Lady's Book, 1844., 1844.. Fair. THE FIRST APPEARANCE OF EDGAR ALLAN POE'S SHORT STORY "A TALE OF THE RAGGED MOUNTAINS" - Octavo, 9-3/4 inches high by 6-1/4 inches wide. Disbound, lacking the covers with but remnants of the spine. [48] text pages in all, numbered from 153 through 200, illustrated with 3 engraved plates. A poem, under the heading "Wanted, A Wife" has been cut out from page 184 with loss of text to Mary Davenant's story on the verso. Several page corners are creased and there is some occasional soiling and faint minor spots of foxing. The first appearance of Edgar Allan Poe's "A Tale of the Ragged Mountains", a story which combines mesmerism and reincarnation set near the University of Virginia where Poe had been a student in 1826-7. Poe's story is here published on pages 177 through 181 of the periodical.

Pictorial yellow boards illustrated in green, gray & white, in a matching pictorial dust wrapper. The edges of the covers are rubbed with wear to the corners and head and tail of the spine. The soiled dust jacket is torn & chipped with several pieces out from the edges and some repairs from the verso. The jacket's spine has mostly perished and the panels have separated. [62] unnumbered pages with color pictorial endpapers and profuse full-page color illustrations by Jean de Brunhoff followed by a "List of Words Which Can Be Found" (in the stories of Babar's adventures) in English with their French translation. The first signature (i.e. group of pages) is lightly pulled. Very good in a fair dust wrapper. An early edition with an announcement about the publication of "Zephir's Holidays" printed on the dust wrapper's rear flap.
