Printed 1 side only on Japan-fold pages, very simple text. Head and tail slightly worn, 2 tiny splits to outer cloth at tail of spine, corners rubbed and slightly 'rounded', paper hinges inside covers cracked and neatly glued, small piece missing from blank top corner of front endpaper, no inscriptions, 3 small yellow paint spots on blank rear endpaper, 1 flower page torn across (geranium, not a colour plate) and invisibly repaired wih no loss (see image 5), slight fingermarking and occasional very pale foxing to margins. Large vertical closed tear to lower cover repaired with archival tape showing on final illustration, lower corner torn off lower cover next to spine, 60 mm wide by 30 mm maximum, (2½" x 1¼") with loss of about 5 words in last 2 lines of text beneath image (see image 4). Russian text, circa 1920s, oblong 4to, 185 x 270 mm, 7½ x 10½ inches, tan card covers with repeat coloured illustration of the 2 toys, Baby Elephant and Teddy Bear, lettered in grey, 32 pages, each with a half-page coloured illustration and two 4-line verses beneath printed blue. The illustrations depict the jolly activities of the 2 toys, often involving mischief, on 1 page their mothers give them a whipping, and at the end Father Christmas puts in an appearance. A little girl recites the history of a quarrel with her brother in which he melted her doll's nose and she broke his top. 50 mm (2") split at tail of spine, very slight soiling to covers, corners slightly creased, 1 small graze to lower cover, contents nice, 1 or 2 pale marks to margins. In print from 1910 to 1916, 210 x 150 mm, 8¼ x 6 inches, deep red covers with coloured illustration of a toddler reading his diary, top and bottom edges pinked. 10 full page coloured illustrations, a 6-line verse below each. A baby boy gets up to mischief, gets grubby in the garden, falls in the pond sailing his boat and spills the ink writing this diary. Charming. Small crease to upper corner of lower cover, small pencil mark to top corner of upper cover, otherwise near Fine crisp clean copy. The artist's name is on the upper cover as H. G. C. Marsh.
