Is the designer's missing teenage daughter involved with a paedophile, or has she just run off to marry a much older man? What connection does this man have to the stolen merchandise and to the designer's husband? The Florida Keys and a handsome U.S. operative give Anna her first blissful taste of the sunny, fog-free New World even as she handily attempts to answer these questions and dodge the bullets that seem to her so quintessentially American. Nominated for the Edgar Award for best novel.

Since then, he has gone on to huge success with his plays (""Kafka's Dick"", and ""An Englishman Abroad""), films (""A Private Function"", ""Prick Up Your Ears"", and ""The Madness of King George""), monologues (""Talking Heads"") and diaries (""Writing Home"", and ""The Lady in the Van""). London: Baskerille, 2022. 1st. h/b. Fine, 1st edition, signed on title.. 8vo (230 x 150 / 9"" x 6""). POLITICS IS A DANGEROUS GAME In MI5 a scandal is brewing and there are bad actors everywhere. A key member of a Downing Street think-tank has disappeared without a trace. Claude Whelan, one-time First Desk of MI5's Regent's Park, is tasked with tracking her down. But the trail leads straight back to Regent's Park HQ itself, with its chief, Diana Taverner, as prime suspect. Meanwhile her Russian counterpart has unexpectedly shown up in London but has slipped under MI5's radar. Over at Slough House, the home for demoted and embittered spies, the slow horses are doing what they do best: adding a little bit of chaos to an already unstable situation. In a world where lying, cheating and backstabbing is the norm, bad actors are bending the rules for their own gain. If the slow horses want to change the script, they'll need to get their own act together before the final curtain.

A selection of unpublished and uncollectd poems by Vernon Watkins' widow, Gwen, drawn from the large number left at his death. Kathleen Raine's introduction notes, 'Wales gave Vernon Watkins muyth and landscape; but he is also one of the last poets to write the English language of the educated and the cultured. He makes no concessions to a demotic revolution. He belongs to past and to future, transmitting words he inherited without diminution of meaning and value. He is perhaps a national, but not a popular poet; certainly a great poet.

In eighteenth century Bath, where Beau Nash ruled as uncrowned king for so many years, the fashionable members of English society found a splendid justification for improving their health and enjoying themselves at the same time. They took the waters assiduously, gambled excessively, danced away the evenings at cotillion balls, and spent the mornings strolling along the Parades in their elegant finery, and exchanging gossip in the coffee houses. Writers, actors, artists and politicians shared the city's delights with exalted members of the peerage; and over… Read More

The stunning novel from the prize-winning author of The Wake. 'Come to a place like this . . . and you will understand soon enough that this world is a great animal, alive and breathing.' Beast plunges you into the world of Edward Buckmaster, a man alone on a west-country moor. What he has left behind we don't yet know; what he faces is an existential battle with himself, the elements and with something he begins to see in the margins of his vision: some creature that is tracking him, the pursuit of which will become an obsession. This is a vivid exploration of isolation, courage and the search for truth. Short, shocking and exhilarating, it confirms Paul Kingsnorth as one of our most daring and rewarding contemporary writers.
