George Sterling (December 1, 1869 – November 17, 1926) moved to Carmel in the summer of 1905 and his home became the center of a Bohemian colony of artists, writers, and others, including Mary Austin, Jack London, Ambrose Bierce, Arnold Genthe, Charles Warren Stoddard, et el.
