Description:
One of one thousand copies of an advance edition apparently issued without a dustjacket. Notation about the edition on the page facing page 1. Basis for the Disney film. Translated by one of the principals in the Alger Hiss scandal. A tight clean copy with minimal bumping of the corners and spine. Page edges slightly dirty, gold on spine somewhat faded. Still, an excellent copy of this scarce issue which the publishers said they would always prefer to the trade edition. Scarce.

Description:
New York: Ballantine Books, 1986. First edition. Mass Market Paperback. Fine. One of the scarcer paperbacks from a major publisher in the 1980s. Barnaby was a wonderful cartoon of the 1940s, Ballantine reprinted the strips in the 1980s, in six volumes -- they did not sell well, despite the efforts of some booksellers to get them into the hands of those who would appreciate them. The problem with the current price on these volumes is that new folks won't get the chance to read them and discover the joys of this kindly strip. Go out and buy the two hardbacks from the 40s; then come back and round out your collection with the Ballantines, the later ones of which reprint otherwise unavailable tales. This is an excellent copy, with slight browning of the paper and only the very slightest of reading creases, invisible except in a strong side-light. tw

Description:
New York NY: [none], 1930. First edition. Hardcover. fine/no dustjacket (as issued). As far as I can tell, this is the first and only separate edition of this short story, which is appears only in the Sussex and Burwasheditions of his work. This is a short story, not to be confused with the poem of the same name, about the inventors of the bow, armor, gunpowder and such in Hell, lamenting their fates and claiming to be benefactors of mankind because they caused progress. Suffice to say this is a scarce item, just the thing for a Kipling collector who thinks he has everything. This copy is numbered 39 of 91 copies for private distribution -- actual numbered copies seem less common than unnumbered ones. Bound in orange boards with cloth back-strip printed in gold. The lower fore-corners show slight wear, and the gilt on the spine title has faded somewhat -- otherwise, this is an immaculate copy. Laid in is a small note by a previous bookseller talking about the scarcity of the item and claiming that… Read More

Description:
Slipcased numbered and signed edition of this collection of stories, essays, and more from the little magazine that was supposed to be a replacement for The Arkham Collector but became so much more. The first issue referred to the magazine as "WFA", which stood for "Whispers from Arkham", but Arkham House never actually gave permission for that name. Runs of the magazine are now very scarce. This collection gives a good idea of what the magazine contained. This edition is signed by 22 contributors, many now dead.Unique copy. Instead of 3 signature pages, this copy has 4. The first one, which has the limitation notice, is duplicated. One is numbered 135 (of 500); the other is unnumbered. This means there are two copies of the signatures of Ray Bradbury, Russell Kirk, William F. Nolan, Hugh B. Cave, David (D.G.) Compton, Dennis Etchison, David Drake, and Ramsey Campbell. A clean copy in publisher's black slipcase, very slightly rubbed. A picture of the slipcase would be very boring: pictures of… Read More

Description:
Oxford UK: Bertie Ramifications, Ltd., 1982. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. Self-published true first edition of this collection of (quite good) doggerel about life in the boardroom of large corporations. These poems were originally published in The Financial Times. Uncommon. This very tall, slim (110 pages) volume contains much to keep the reader amused while the financial markets fall apart around us. Slightly rubbed on the edges of the jacket, in apparently unread condition with jacket price unclipped. tw from wfw
