Russell Flint (twelve in each volume) as called for. Limited edition of five hundred copies, this being copy one hundred and eighty eight (as per the number on the spines of the DJ's). Celebrating the twenty-first birthday of Robert Eadon Leader with a dinner at the Black Swan Hotel. With an attractive vignette of a printing press to head of the decorative frame, which exemplifies his and his family's trade as he was the son of Robert Leader, who was the proprietor of the Sheffield and Rotherham Independent, and he himself was a journalist who published many books on the history of Sheffield. London: S.W. Fores, 1804. Hand-coloured caricature, approximately 360mm x 245mm. Slightly creased with a couple of small tears to top edge, top left hand corner missing with slight loss, (now repaired). 'The Coffin Expedition' shows French sailors wearing bonnet rouges sailing in cannon laden coffins with skulls for mastheads ('Boney's crest, a skull without brains'), with one 'boat' sinking and the others being closed in on by the British navy in the background, with one French sailor exclaiming 'Oh de Corsican Bougre, was make dese Gun Boats on purpose for our Funeral'. Two volumes complete - lviii, [2], 531pp, [1] and Volume Two - [2], 574pp. Later full-calf, raised bands, spines in six panels, morocco author label to second panel, contrasting morocco volume label to third, remaining with elongated volute and flower head rolls with central device, covers with single fillet border, marbled endpapers with all edges marbled. Slightly chipped to head of spines with small amount of loss, worn to outer joints, with some minor scraping to covers, internally lightly browned with sporadic minor foxing, but generally fairly clean.
