Dust Jacket Condition: Pristine/Fine. 1st Edition. oblong oversizeCowboys on Canvas Artist Bill Owen knows ranches of the Southwest. For some 35 years, he's been painting scenes from the contemporary cowboy's way of life to record this chapter of American history. Those traveling north of Highway 89 are treated to Owen's images as he captures a moment from Babbitt Ranches. The scene is a triptych, three separate paintings that fit together to make one large image and can be seen on a billboard about 35 miles north of Flagstaff. "It is a painting of the Cowboys at noon catching fresh horses to finish the day. The Cowboys will get off their horses, throw each other their ropes and make a rope corral that they bring their remuda into," he says. Owen visits Babbitt Ranches six to eight times a year, has ridden with the cowboys and has… Read More

Description:
This book is in near fine condition. (See Pictures)In this second printing (September 1940) of "The Course of American Democratic Thought," Ralph H. Gabriel, with the assistance of Robert H. Walker, brings his seminal study up to date by taking into account the complicated and fascinating interplay between the events of the past thirty years and the American democratic faith. Although many of the trends had been anticipated in the earlier editions of this work, those discussions only paved the way for the present chronicle of democratic faith in an era that combines nostalgia for traditional values with an almost incredible rate of technical innovation. Gabriel argues that the values he first summarized in the foreword to the first edition, written thirty years ago, are still a basic point of reference for social and political argument. But, he asks, are they the same basic values? The title he chose for the final section of the second edition, The American Democratic Faith Survives in a Time of… Read More

Description:
Note from Wikipedia:Robert William Service (January 16, 1874 – September 11, 1958) was a British-Canadian poet and writer who has often been called "the Bard of the Yukon".[1][2] He is best known for his poems "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" and "The Cremation of Sam McGee", from his first book, Songs of a Sourdough (1907; also published as The Spell of the Yukon and Other Verses). His vivid descriptions of the Yukon and its people made it seem that he was a veteran of the Klondike gold rush, instead of the late-arriving bank clerk he actually was. Although his work remains popular, Service's poems were initially received as being crudely comical works.__________________________________________Dodd & Mead, New York, 1968. Hardcover. This is a NEW BookThe Copper Beech is a 1992 novel by Irish author Maeve Binchy.
The novel is centered on the lives of eight people, each of which have etched their dreams or desires into a large beechtree on the last day of school. The novel follows the progression of their lives and whether or not they accomplish their dreams. From: Publishers Weekly News.Binchy, the author is a consummate storyteller with a unique ability to draw readers into her tales of Irish life. Here again she mines sources rich in plot and character to produce a captivating narrative. The eponymous copper beech is a huge tree that shades the tiny schoolhouse in the village of Shancarrig. For generations, graduating pupils have carved their initials on the massive trunk, and the book examines what has become of some of them. Though each of the 10 chapters offers the perspective of a single character, Binchy adroitly indicates the ways in which their lives intersect. Will James: "That Cowboy Who Drew Pictures"
As a boy, Will James dreamed of becoming a cowboy. At age 15 he left his home near Montreal, Canada and, a few years later, was working for large and small cattle outfits in the American West. In addition, James attended the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco where he met artists Maynard Dixon and Harold Von Schmidt. James became widely known as "that cowboy who drew pictures."
Between 1920 and his death at age 50 in 1942, James is said to have written and illustrated more than 24 books and numerous magazine articles. His first novel, "Smoky The Cowhorse," was published in 1926. It received the prestigious Newbery Medal for children's literature and was adapted into three Hollywood films.

James' first-hand knowledge of wild and trained horses, coupled with his experience as a working cowboy, provided him with the insights and understanding of cowboy life unmatched by his peers, past or present.
