New York, New York, U.S.A.: Doubleday, 1988. New Edition . Cloth with Dustjacket. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY HERMAN WOUK. Play about a navy court martial that Wouk based on his own novel that won a Pulitzer Prize. The play was a modest hit and ran for 415 performances in 1954. The cast was good Henry Fonda, Lloyd Nolan (as Queeg) and John Hodiak with direction by Charles Laughton. But it is the film version that remains in our memories mainly because of Humphrey Bogart's legendary performance as Queeg. This was really his swan song and the last of his Oscar nominations. The film received 7 Oscar noms. including one for best picture. The book is in fine condition except for a shadow of a small price stain on the front pastedown. This is the new edition of the play and should not be confused with the first 1954 edition which seems that a lot of dealers are doing. There were no isbns' back in 1954. Laid in the book is a playbill for the 1983 Broadway production that starred Michael Moriarty.

Made into a bloated but beautiful looking film in 1967 that did poorly at the box office but won Oscars for its costumes and art direction. This is a very nice copy with a touch of light chipping to the top and bottom of the spine panel and a tiny tear to the top edge of the back panel of the dustjacket. Price clipped. The white dj. is nice and clean. Laid in is an illustrated 4pg. foldover for the Fireside Book Club edition which this is not. Vg/vg. Illustrated with many well printed candids and photos by Swope of a long lost and gone Hollywood with many large full page photos featuring famous stars and behind the scenes of movie making. . Captions in the back of the book. There is light tonning to the paper which is to be expected, but overall the book is fine. Lacking the original dustjacket, the blue boards are in nice condition with some rubbing to the spine panel.
