This is a near-perfect copy of six collected novels by the great British military novelist C.S. Forester (1899-1966). This book is now approaching rare status. It includes The Ship, Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, The Earthly Paradise, The General, The Captain From Connecticut, and the African Queen. These books cover both world wars, the War of 1812, the Napoleonic Wars, Christopher Columbus' voyage of 1497, and the African Queen, made famous by the film starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. They also introduce the reader to the famed Horatio Hornblower. This is a large book--861 pages. Minor wear to the edges of the dust jacket. The edges of the pages are darkening a little. One dogear. Otherwise pristine.

Cabinet Makers & Furniture Designers was the first in a series on great craftsmen, published by Spring Books. It was first published in 1969; this is the second edition, published in 1972. It is 50 absorbing studies of outstanding makers and designers of furniture, from the 16th century through the 1960s. I attach a photo of the contents. It is very useful for collectors and dealers, as well as for designers, decorators, art historians and craftsmen.9" x 12", 320 pages, packed with photographs.It weighs 3 1/2 lbs.It's now expensive to buy, and verging on rare. It's priced the way it is because it's a former library book; you can remove all of the fittings. It has been well leafed through, and the pages are darkening a little, but the inside is clean and clear.

This is a first edition of Caesars of the Wilderness, written in 1987 by the Canadian journalist Peter C Newman. It is part two of his history of the Hudson's Bay Company; in this volume, we learn about the war for supremacy over the North American fur trade, and the territory ranging from San Francisco to the Beaufort Sea. The competition was between the Hudson's Bay's Fur Brigades, and their arch-rivals the Northwest Company, an incredible battle that remains the fiercest commercial feud in history. La Dame aux Camélias (The Lady with the Camellias, commonly known as Camille) is a novel by Alexandre Dumas fils, first published in 1848 and adapted by Dumas for the stage. The play was an instant success, it became Verdi's La Traviata and has since been adapted for the stage dozens of time. It has also been made into movies dozens of times, most famously starring Greta Garbo in 1936, and in 2001, when Nicole Kidman starred in Moulin Rouge. It is about a young man who falls in love with a consumptive courtesan.

This copy is undated but was published around 1950 by the Modern Library (Random House). It is gray boards with a navy and gold design. 5" x 7". 270 pages.

All flaws are visible in the photos. The pages have darkened a little. The spine is starting to pull away, just at the front. There is a bump to the cover, at the lower right corner. There is no real shelfwear—just what you see on the spine.

This is a beautiful copy of Can You Forgive Her? by Anthony Trollope, published by Everyman Knopf in 1994.Can You Forgive Her? is the first of Trollope's six Palliser novels, written in serial form in 1864 and 1865. It's a really good story--all about romance and the politics of relationships and what a woman should do with her life. Burgundy cloth boards with a black and gold design on the cover and spine.
There is a book plate on the inside front cover, which will come off.
The paper stock is a lovely soft cream. There are no flaws or marks of any kind inside.
Its only issue is that it was splashed with water from a flower vase. You can see in the photo, under my shadow, the faint mark on the lower quarter of the front cover.
Aside from that, it's perfect.

Between 1864 and 1979, the great British author Anthony Trollope wrote 6 books called The Palliser Novels. They revolve around the wealthy aristocrat and politician Plantagenet Palliser and his wife, Lady Glencora, and they cover the sweep of Victorian society. They are considered satire and parody of English life, and criticism of the British government's predilection for attracting corrupt and corruptible people to power.
In 1977, Oxford University Press released The Palliser Novels in separate 5" x 7 1/2" volumes. This is an unread first edition of Canada's Glory, Battles That Forged a Nation 1759-1953, reviewed as "an excellent account of Canada's involvement in decisive international battles from 1759 to 1953." It was written by the Canadian author Arthur Bishop (1923-2013), a WWII Spitfire pilot and son of the famed Canadian ace Billy Bishop. See Table of Contents photo for the list of battles. 309 pages, including photos and maps. This book is unopened and unread. Save for a inscription (daughter to father) on the front endpaper, it is in mint condition.
