This publication detailed, in words and pictures, the workings of the first successful cable car company to operate in San Francisco, the Clay Street Hill Railroad which began in 1873. The intention of the company was to generate funding for more lines, and to encourage other cities and towns to consider a traction railroad system, (best known as a "cable car" system).
