A rare mail art catalogue, the exhibition was held at the Nuova Galleria del Teatro in the Palazzo del Governatore Piazza Garibaldi; we find just one copy through WorldCat, in Italy. Romano Peli and Michaela Versari, founders of the Centro Documentazione Organizzazione (C.D.O.) based in Parma, have contributed two texts in Italian about mail art and the present exhibition. The group organized a series of mail art shows in the 70s and 80s. Dozens of artists from 26 countries are listed, including Vigo, Zabala, Duch, Bruscky, Deisler, Büchler, Kocman, R. Rehfeldt, R. The great rhyme books [issued in Korea] of the eighteenth century were Hwa-Dong jeongeum tongseok un-go [Examination of Rhymes in the Correct Pronunciation of China and the East [viz. Korea], with Comprehensive Explanations] from 1747, Samun seonghwi [Collected Sounds of the Three Rhymes] from 1751, and Eojeong Gyujang jeonun [Royally Commissioned Complete Rhymes of the Palace Library] from 1796. The first of these books was based on the expansion of Samun tonggo from the early eighteenth century. The Chinese civilian administration of the Qing empire was carried out by six ministries and various court agencies in Beijing, which headed the regional and local governments of the provinces, prefectures, and counties of China proper. Officials who served in most of the posts in this civilian administration were recruited through a system of examinations. While success at the highest level of the examination system was realized by only a very select few, many classically educated males passed the lower-level examinations, which conferred social status but not, generally speaking, government office. Four vols. 8vo, orig. wrappers, orig. stitching. [China]: Privately Printed by Zhushen hejing zhai 竹深荷淨齋, 1859. An early edition, most likely the first, of this very rare manual on cursive script calligraphy, or cao shu. This script "received [its] final formulation during the Six Dynasties period" (Ledderose, Mi Fu, 7-8). Liang Minxian wrote in the Preface to our book that since the Han dynasty, calligraphers competent in the cursive script exceeded 200. Yet, "under our Dynasty, the learning of characters flourishes; only the cursive script remains little used." Liang thus wrote the present manual for readers to learn cursive script forms by juxtaposing them to the standard script forms. Liang Minxian (courtesy name Xigeng 西庚, style name Zhushen hejing zhai 竹深荷淨齋主人) is said to have been part of the private secretarial staff of He Shaoji 何紹基 (1799-1873), from whom he would have learned cursive script calligraphy. Wallis (fl. 1771-73), who described himself as an architect, is known only as the author of three pattern-books. When the present book was first issued, it was accompanied by one leaf of Taylor ads. As copies were sold off over a period of many years, a new title-page was printed to accompany the already printed plates with the Taylors' new address ("Nearly opposite Great Turn-Stile, Holborn"), along with the most recently printed Taylor catalogue. This copy is accompanied by a 16-page Taylor catalogue datable to about 1800 (they were now located at No. 59 High Holborn). Nice copy. Bookplate of Edmond L. It is tantamount to a bibliography of the pre-1820 literature on these subjects, owing to the detailed bibliographical and critical notes to the 4,800 works, and is still frequently consulted and quoted."-Grolier Club, Bibliography, 121. In 1824, Cicognara (1767-1834), sold the entire library to Pope Leo XII, who incorporated it into the Vatican Library. Very good uncut set. Van Schorel, seigneur de Wilryck (1716-73), served as mayor of Antwerp. He was actively involved in the artistic life of the city and in the early 1740s played an important role in the reorganization and financial support of the city's Academie voor Schoone Kunsten. Van Schorel formed one of the largest gatherings of Rubens's oil sketches in the southern Netherlands in the eighteenth century. He became a prodigious and eclectic collector, having inherited a large fortune from his father, Etienne. The younger Saint-Yves was a considerable buyer at the Mariette, Boucher, Jullienne, Huquier, Neyman, Conti, and van Loo sales and owned complete collections of works by Dürer, Sadeler, Lucas de Leyde, S. A rare sale catalogue of a varied and rich collection formed by one of Napoleon's trusted advisors. Hauterive (1754-1830), statesman and archivist, fled from the Revolution to the United States, where he served as French consul in New York. He was recalled to France by Talleyrand to a high post in the office of foreign affairs in 1798. The two collaborated on De L'État de la France à la fin de l'an VIII (1800), which justified Napoleon's coup d'état to the world. D'Hauterive entered Napoleon's inner circle and significantly shaped the foreign policy of Napoleonic France. He was essential in the drafting of the Concordat of 1801 and his influence shines through in the final document. Brisebarre (d. 1813) was an administrator at the Banque de France, and this auction took place at his home on rue Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, no. 38. The present sale was postponed from 5 April to 6 June (hence the two Lugt numbers), probably due to Napoleon's return from exile; the correct date has been written in on the title-page of our copy.<br /> This catalogue describes a total of 182 lots, with a large number of modern French paintings. We find works by Boucher, Bruandet, Bidault, Boissieu, Demarne, Drolling, Hue, Lantara, Mlle.
